I sustained some kind of shoulder injury a few months back. I say “some kind of injury” because I don’t have insurance, and didn’t have it properly checked. Due to this injury, my entire left arm was weaker than it was previously.
This “injury” was not a traumatic one, but manifested as a slow onset, unrelenting soreness and swelling of the trapezius and rear deltoid on my left side. It also resulted in numbness in the spot between my bicep and tricep on the top part of my left arm. It could have been impingement syndrome, bursitis, rotator cuff tendinitis, trigger points or a combination of all, but one thing’s for sure- it caused nerves to be pinched.
It’s been 2 months since this problem was at it’s peak. I took a month off, now I’m slowly getting my strength back, but all is not normal. My left wrist is still very weak. When I’m doing side laterals, my right hand is in a straight line with my forearm, while my left hand is pointing down.
Anyone have something similar to this? Any tips? I’m hoping I can get this fully resolved some day.
Normally im against them, but have you tried doing some wrist curls? I would do them with a hold at the top for a second or two. I had wrist surgery and when coming back I did these, got a deep burn in the muscles I wanted. I don’t love them for normal training, but if your having a difficult time keeping your wrist up why not try training them in the same movement pattern that is giving you issues? Maybe your just having a hard time activating the muscles properly.
For what it’s worth, my muscles can now hold my wrist up during side laterals. Due to my surgery, im not sure I will ever be able to do them properly though because of the tendon/cartilage issues I have scare me somewhat having my hand in that position.

Yes, thank you. I have started to do wrist curls. ironically my forearms are huge, and I’ve never had to do any direct forearm/wrist training until now.
