Waxy Maize Starch Postworkout - Add Dextrose?

Hi all. I previously utilize a dextrose/whey shake postworkout. I’ve had issues with lethargy an hour or two afterward, as well as bloating, both of which I’ve read has been experience by many dextrose users.

I’ve often read that WMS is said to help alleviate those (along with its PWO recovery benefits) so I got some today and will start using it next week, but wanted to ask if there is any merit/advantage in including a small amount of dextrose in the shake. For example, 50g WMS and 10g dextrose.

With regards,
X

Hey xen- I’ve experianced similar feelings about using dextrose. However, Dutxtrose is much finer than maze. It reacts faster. maze is even thicker than Maltodextrin which you should be combining with your dex.

Maze is a good alternative and I think you will see the benefits of it simply because its a more compound carb. my .02

Much appreciated. I hope so too - I am not sure it has to do with it being compound; more to do with its low molecular weight IIRC. Either way though, I’m hoping it will help with the bloating and dextrose crash.

Anyone else here perhaps mix the two?

I would rather opt for a maltodextrin+waxy maize starch combo =]

I’ve never used WMS but have read up alot on it. I don’t understand why you would want to add dextrose to it. The wms will do all the replenishing you need and at a faster rate.

Adding other ingredients (with lower molecular weight, like proteins and sugars) to a High molecular weight carb would just bring its average weight down, reducing its effectiveness. This is my understanding at least.

Also, why add dextrose if you get stomach bloating and distention? I would probably just use WMS in your scenario.
