Waterbury's 25 Method

Hey guys,

Not to long ago, I posted a thread, asking about a solid program to utilize in the winter quarter.

I have to decided to follow Waterbury’s 25 method program (Hypertrophy).

I have a few questions:

  1. Do you change the rep/set parameters each day?

Ex:
Day 1: 8x3
Day 3: 5x5
Day 5: 4x6

The only problem I see with this is, the exercises on the different training days will only be subjected to one type of reps/sets. By this I mean, the bench press on wednesday only utilizes 5x5 while the decline on friday only utilizes 4x6.

  1. In regards to progression and “periodization,” would you recommend adding volume for 3 consecutive weeks and then backing off? Or wavering the volume from week to week?

Thanks

what’s your training age/history?

I am currently 18 years old.

I have about 2 years of true hard training under my belt.

My previous workouts consisted of heavy basics (bench, standing military, deadlifts, back squats, front squats, overhead squats, snatches, cleans). I played football 4 years of high school. Conditioning all four years consisted of plyometrics, truck pushing, speed training and etc.

I consider myself to be intermediate and maybe even beginner, considering that I haven’t trained that hard since football season ended last novemeber (2006)

I use to be really up to date and well informed with the different types of training and all that good stuff. With the move to college though, I didn’t have too much time to research and read anymore. Right now I am just looking for a solid program for strength and size, which will hopefully help me re-establish previous strength levels and muscle mass.

Thanks

In addition,

If Waterbury recommends a total of 25 reps 3x a week, I think you would burn out quickly as you are training in the +80% range very frequently.
