Belts are a great tool if you’re looking to go for heavy lifts without sacrificing your form and lower back. And the placebo effect works great too, but I think a lot of people need to ditch their belts on anything less than 90% max lifts. You can’t become to reliant on one, unless you’re going super heavy IMO.
I also like using a belt, just in case I need that little extra support for my back if it’s not feeling super strong. Typical bodybuilding volume training tires out my back muscles quickly so if I want my legs to progress I’ve got to belt up so I can keep my form tight on heavy leg days. But I won’t use a belt for anything in less than the 5RM range. I also don’t like using a belt for deadlifts. It just feels limiting and doesn’t help me keep tight down in the hole anyways.
