Hey Rangertab that was a pretty politically correct answer. But, I know what you really think.

Does anyone else prepare their meals a week ahead of time. I’m talking about an entire week of meals including breakfasts in the fridge and ready to go. That’s what I am doing this week. I spent the day cooking chicken breasts and egg white omelates and such, then I put them into those small gladlock containers. I think this will be the way to get in 7-8 300 calorie meals. I’m pretty excited, can’t wait to see how this works out!
Chippy,
You have gotten a lot of damn-good advice, but I feel compelled to add my two cents worth.
I have to correct Coach Joe a little here. I’m not sure if it was different before my time, but the chin-ups/pull-ups can be either overhand or underhand grip(I can’t remember if alternating was allowed, but I don’t think so).
The sit-ups have changed to crunches recently(last 4 years or so), with slightly different rules. With the old test you held your hands interlocked behind your head and ‘sat-up’ far enough to break the plane of your knees. However, this ended up being more of a hip flexor, momentum test, since you were allowed to raise your butt off the ground and slam it down to begin the movement.
In any event, the new ‘crunches’ are tested with your arms across your chest and your butt must stay on the ground. One repetition is bringing your upper body up so your arms come in contact with your legs and then returning to the starting position. A perfect 100 points would be 100 crunches in 2 minutes.
I’ve also seen people suggest running in sand and mud to prepare you. That’s a great idea. For those of us that already have problems with the stamina required to run 2-6 miles at a reasonable pace, mud and sand are killers.
But, then again, your recruiter should have already told you all this.
Oh yeah, I highly suggest trying to go into boot camp under your max weight, even if it means losing some muscle weight. Body fat percentage is disregarded in boot camp; either you make weight or you don’t. I didn’t. And I became a ‘diet recruit.’ An outcast readily identified with my large bright red stripes on my PT(physical training) clothes.
I was almost starved in boot camp. Your food intake is cut back and monitored by the drill instructors(what makes these guys nutrition experts?), and I was always hungry. I ended up losing about 40 lbs in boot camp(bringing me to about 140), and I looked horrible…but I could run my ass off.
However, I lost a lot of muscle as I stuggled to bench 175 when I got out
Anyway, some will disagree with me, but I say just lose the weight anyway you can, even if it muscle. Because if you don’t lose it know, you’ll lose it in boot camp.
Good Luck
I was in before they implemented the new situp routine but the pull ups were either grip and you could change during the test as long as you didn’t leave the bar. This means you have to have some fast hands to switch the grip without falling.
By alternating I meant a pull-up with one overhand and one underhand. I don’t know if that is allowed. Yeah, I know that you can change grips anytime you would like during the test.
At the time I was in, both palms needed to face the same direction. Sorry about that.
I got a gret tip from the Integrated sport solutions forum regarding cooking my egg whites. I scramble tuna right in with 'em. Tastes great! I can’t believe the motivation I get from the forum (both ISP and T-Nation). Breaking my meals up into 7-8 small ones a day could be the best thing I ever did as far as my health and physique go. Working with teamstaley is awesome, I can’t recommend them enough!
Thanx everybody!
Just to let everyone know, the forum over here at Integrated Sports Solutions for Staley Training Systems is a private forum for coaching members only. And as far as teamstaley being awesome-yes, I know (lol)-Julianne
Chippy, thanks for keeping us updated. If you get a chance, we’d love to hear about what you’re learning and what you’re implementing. Even further, if you could post your progress and the things you’re struggling with, it would be motivating, helpful and educational to all of us who are struggling with the same issues. And see, that’s the thing: We’re all on the same journey!!!
Keep up the good work!!! We’re rooting for you.
Hey everybody! working with teamstaley is going great. Coach Staley has me doing lots of core movements like squats, dumbell snatches, etc.( although I can say that EDT can produce quite a bit of soreness!)I just wanted to share something that happened the other day at the gym. I was doing one arm dumbell snatches and I noticed that I was getting some funny looks from some of the other members in the free weight area. I’ve read so many of the posts and articles where folks have said they sometimes get funny looks for what they do in the gym. It felt kinda good. Could this mean I’m on my way to becoming a T-man?!!
That would rock!
Is 215 your shipping weight?? because if it is and you go into boot with that weight youre gonna lose 35-50 lbs at boot (you might lose more if you go into PCP, thats the Pork Chop Platton). You need to look at this whole plan of attack and keep it simple that means your supplementation simple your workouts simple. I would get some Hot-Rox (I praise this product because it maintains LBM when dieting. and by about 2 weeks into this stuff I get pretty lean ) There was A time in my life when I was 285. I was tired of being fat so I joined the Marines became an infantryman and lost 140 lbs while at it. It felt pretty damn good.
Yea 215 is my ship weight and 225 is my DEP weight. It’s unbelievable how many people think I’m crazy for wanting to go into the Marines right now. It’s a good thing people didn’t think like that in WWII!
Does anybody else have problems with a spouse who refuses to stop bringing garbage food into the house! ( i.e. cookies, pizza, ice cream, and such.) Even though she knows that I’m trying to lose weight, she doesn’t think that she should have to stop bringing that food into the house. She is also complaining about all the preprepared meals that I’m sticking in the fridge these days, says that they take up too much room. sorta frustrating ya know.
Also, once I lost a little bit of weight, she did a 180 degree turn on her support of me in enlisting in the reserves. That was a huge part of me enlisting. I guess she figured that I wasn’t that serious about the whole thing.
crazy
That sucks man. I’m not married though, so I can’t give advice.
Ask on the OFF TOPIC forum, you’d prob get help there
