Remember, Happiness is a belt fed weapon.

CHippy-
I agree with BigGrip, make sure the Marines are the branch you really want if you intend on being a reservist. Maybe another branch might suit you better.

Think closely on what exactly you want out of your military experience.

A friend of mine, somebody I really care about, was Special Force Recon. He was a sniper and fought in the Gulf. Joined the Corps at 18 as a kid from East Boston and at 19 he was in the field. He killed a lot of men in battle, and that has f#cked him up. He won’t tell me how many men he killed, only that it is more than 10. He is always melancholy, even sad, he’s depressed, in therapy, on medication, etc etc. Loved the Corps, but he is paying a heavy price. Make sure that you really want to do whatever specialty you choose. Tough question to answer: do you want to kill someone as part of your assigned duty OR would you rather be in supply,MP, or maybe Air Force, Navy etc?

On a lighter note-
As someone who is in the 290 lb. range right now, I’m with you in spirit. Make us proud!

And PLEASE make sure you have the best pair of running shoes out there. Don’t be cheap! ANd at your weight, replace them after 3 months, buy orthopedic inserts, and stretch constantly! Or you can buy 2 pairs of shoes and alternate them. You are putting a LOT of stress on your joints, take care of them- and they’ll do the same to you.

Veterans, please don’t flame. I just want him to think his decision through completely.

BronxBomber- ARe you going to sign up for PM? iwant to discuss some weight loss issues with you. I think you and i are on the same “vibe”. Let me know, if not I’ll post my email address.

Bigrip59 is right, focus mainly on the task that is immediately at hand, whick for you would be boot camp. But that doesn’t mean you can’t constantly strive to go even further. if you set your goals and standards even further, you will exceed the norm. Be better than everyone else that is around you. Remember, in a way competition is heavy in the military when it comes to slots, despite the fact that all of you are in there together.

-An armed society is a polite society.

And with regards to your comparing marines to Rangers, it’s apples and oranges, man. In the Ranger bat we talked shit to everyone, and I mean everyone. A lot of people like to compare SEALs to Green Berets, but they do totally different things. Just remember that they are all equally important in that they have somewhat different jobs to do. Neither one of them is better than the other. Comparing Rangers to any regular infantry unit, then yeah, Rangers are more highly trained; but then again, we’d be fucked if it wasn’t for the huge regular Army.

BronxBomber, you there? Or are you still posting to the body count thread!?!

I wanna “rap” with you “bro”!

(About the weight loss program you followed, not a freestyle competition)

Hey sonny, pm away. You have to sign up for it? hm, I didn’ know that. I thought you just sign up, you get the whole shebang. You can email me at [Posting email addresses on the forum is not allowed - Moderator]. I’d post more right now, but i’m posting pics and then running to the gym.

thanks TT and SS.

Had an awesome visit to my Marine recruiters office today! Can’t wait to drop weight and ship out. I’m gonna try to go into MP. I don’t know how I could possibley fail with the help of Coach Staley and all of the T-Nation folks!

rangertab-I was told that Marine infantry is anythig but conventional. “A green amphibious monster festering on anti-Americans throughout the world!” Sounds pretty good to me. The Marine Corps. seems to have a warrior culture all their own. I’m pretty psyched.

Chippy–Don’t even THINK about going MP. Do you really want to be that guy that is busting other Marines over petty shit like underage drinking? A lot of guys I know that went MP really liked it, but I can’t see the glory in screwing over your fellow Marines.

mikeyali

Amen to that Mikeyali! The MP’s are the buddy-fuckers of the Corps!

Chippy, I don’t know exactly what your goals are, or what you plan on doing outside of the Corps, but being an MP is a boring-ass job. You sit around and check IDs at the gate, or sit in your cruiser for hours on end. Pretty soon it’s 2am and you’re bored out of your mind, looking to pull anyone over and write them a ticket for some retarded shit.

My $.02 bro. I’m a grunt, so I have respect for a choice few. Take my opinion with a grain of salt. Good luck with your weight loss and training.

Semper Fidelis

sorry that i haven’t let everyone know how things were going with coach staley’s group. Let me start out by saying that working with coach staley’s group is AWESOME!(if not a little bit intimidating). Between T-Nation and coach staley’s group their is no way I can failThe programs that I have been sent feel great, and I’m gonna completely overhaul the way I eat! I’m sure that I’m gonna smoke that Physical Fitness Test when the time comes. My running hasn’t gotten much better but I’m sure that will come with the weight loss. I want to thank T-Nation and especially coach Staley for all the extreme help that I’ve been given. I know that I will not fail!

Don’t be an MP, and if you really wanna be one, be cool one. Of course I’m probably biased since I spent 6 months in the Brig. Anyway, good luck and I hope you enjoy it. As much as I initially hated it, I learned to like it and I actually miss being in the Marine Corps. I even miss the Brig, lol. It’s definately an experience to remember, and I am forever glad I eventually got the balls to join.

One little tip: run in sand.

If you are not used to it, it will kill you. I wasn’t a Marine, but did AOCS in Pensacola. I thought I was in great shape until we had to run in that deep, soft sand all the time. It really is a lot harder than pounding out a few miles of road work. I have a house near PI and there is plenty of sand there as well. Better not to have it surprise you.

“The Marine Corps is a warrior culture all its own.” Amen. Look at what happened recently in Fallujah when they started pulling everyone to the lines. That included Marines that weren’t 03s (infantry). The common creed in the Corps is ‘Every Marine is a Rifleman.’ Basically, you are expected to know how to preform like a grunt.

It doesn’t happen often but it happens. Good luck, Chippy. Earning the title of Marine is a great experience. I can still picture the day in my mind and remember everything about it when I heard the words, "Good monring, Marines.’ at my graduation.

Like a number of guys have said, don’t give up and keep running. When you get tired of running, walk up a hill. Then run some more.

over here at teamstaley we are proud of the work that Chippy is doing and if we can get him to quit with those fast food breakfasts that he loves we are half way there. In the end it is all up to him-you can have the worlds experts at your fingertips giving you the best advise and programs ever and if you choose to do nothing then you end up with nothing. The group is really getting involved with him-I would not call them intimidating, more like innovating! Keep up the good work Chippy-Julianne

go to www.stewsmith.com and get teh 10 weeker this will have you in good shape. You may want to call stew and ask him how to modify it but it works.
