It’s a shame that, rather than marvel at an absolutely incredible feat of strength (isn’t Chuck about 45 now?!), we’re all sitting here bitching about squat depth. For a change, eh?
Thread is now about Chuck being awesome again.

Embarrassing depth. [/quote]
Dude, I hope your just fuckin’ around…
Look at the lower edge of Chucks belt. It’s about 3-4 inches above the crease of the leg at the hip; the belt is on his lower abdomen right?
Now look at the lower edge of his belt while he is in the hole. His belt dipped below the knee. So by “parallel” being defined as the leg at the crease of the hip slightly lower than the leg at the knee, Chuck’s depth is clearly adequate. I’d argue lower than necessary…but I wasn’t there and I’m not a judge and I don’t play one on the internet either
Chuck is always fun to watch. I wish I had half his intensity!
The video doesn’t do this moment justice.
Chuck missed his first and second attempts. He fell forwards and backwards. On his second attempt he must’ve unracked it and re-racked it 3-4 times. Must his 2nd out of the hole …
Then does this on his third.
Glad this thread go redirected. Between this and the SPF Ironman a lot of good lifting this weekend. AJ and Hoff did great in Tennessee. Heard there was some USAPL RAWWWW thing too in Columbus. Oh well…
Sorry to hurt feelings, but there’s nothing about that squat that would make it legal in any normal federation. He takes it off the rack, without locking his knees, immediately goes into his squat, goes what looks like above parallel, and then squats it up, and dives it into the monolift without locking his knees again. There are plenty of double-ply, monolift squatters that I admire, but that wasn’t something that I’m impressed with, as a spectator.
No, I can’t do it, but that doesn’t mean I can’t think it was a bullshit squat. I can’t play QB in the NFL, but I feel safe saying that Ben Roethlisberger sucked in this year’s Super Bowl.
BTW, PeteS: Any 39 yr. old who spells the word “gay” as “ghey” is in fact, gay.

Watched the video again after reading your points. I see what you mean about all the other stuff.

Yeah, the no lockout to begin or end bothers me more than the depth. Depth is at least semi-subjective, but no one can argue he ever locked out the weight.
Hella strong, but not my cup of tea.

Well, since the angle doesn’t give a clear perspective of where parallel would be and the other indicators (belt, knee angle) seem to point to it being deep enough and the video doesn’t even show his knees at lockout, I’m going to put my money on you being full of shit and trying to find fault with it just because.
This is getting ridiculous. I can almost understand trying to judge depth from a cell phone video that doesn’t clearly depict depth (which can only really be determined conclusively from the side judge’s chair). What I can’t even begin to fathom is saying a lift isn’t locked out when you can’t even see the lifter’s knees at the conclusion of the lift.
Just because this federation doesn’t go to the ridiculous lengths that yours does to demonstrate depth (top of the thigh below the knee) and control of the bar (full 3 count pause at the start and finish of the lift) doesn’t mean that any lift not held to your own (absurdly high) standards is invalid.
And by the way, if you prefer to compete in USAPL/IPF and disagree with the standards of judging in multiply powerlifting, do us all a favor and don’t waste any of our time whining about judging in federations you neither lift in, support, or spectate.
This is akin to me going over to the strongman forum and bitching about how they use straps and hitch. Supreme 9th level idiocy.
I will just insert this again, till we see the view of the side judges, give Chuck the benefit of the doubt and be amazed of what he did.

First, how on earth could we not see his knees at the end of the lift? The video wasn’t cut out. He clearly finishes his squat without a knee lock, and then lunges the bar forward into the monolift. I agree that it’s tough to judge the depth from the front, but the lack of lockout of his knees at the beginning and end of the lift aren’t arguable.
Second, there’s no "3 count pause rule at the start and finish of the lift. You have to demonstrate that your knees are locked out. I never said I had a problem with multiply lifting, and I’ve contemplated doing it someday. I even said that I don’t consider it to be cheater gear. APF seems to get it right, because at least the knees are locked before and after the lift. Lexen, which if I’m not mistaken, is a federation Vogelpohl created himself, most likely to loosens standards so he and his followers can set “World Records,” doesn’t have this rule.
Your reading comprehension is shockingly poor.

You’re joking, right?
Lexen is a gym located in Grove City, Ohio and Chuck didn’t leave Westside to start training there until early 2008. Some have said that it had to do with Louie’s insistence that high squats get passed in whatever fed he happened to like at that point in time, but really, who knows. The meet was IPA sanctioned, just like every other meet Danny Dague has held over the last few years.
Nice try with those absurd assumptions though.
Are you this dumb or are you just really bad at being funny?

x2… If you don’t know what the fuck you are talking about, keep your mouth shut…
How the fuck does anyone thing that Lexen is a federation?
Its already been said that you can’t see at the end. I don’t know which video you saw, but the one I saw the view goes up as he does and you can’t see his knees at the end.
Once the hooks are pulled in, you can rack it… The judge is supposed to call RACK IT then they put the hooks in. I have no fucking clue what you mean by driving into the monolift… he obviously had it at the top and got the call and racked it.
The depth looked good, from that angle. You can’t really tell like that, downward angle from the front. The side judges were pleased. Sorry to tell everyone who hates on Chuck, but their opinion is the only one that matters…

Yeah, I lol’d at that too.
