Vince Gironda

Does anyone know how to do a couple of Vince’s famous exercises? The first is the drag curl. And the second is the high bench two dumbbell row.Any help is appreciated.

You do the drag curl by starting with the bar at the bottom of the curl and sliding it up your body as far as it will go. You end up more or less at the top of the curl.

The drag curl is just a normal standing barbell curl during which you keep the bar as close to you as possible through the concentric and eccentric portion of the movement. You’ll find that you actually have to pull your elbows back a bit to accomodate this motion.

I would assume that the high bench two dumbbell row would be a modified version of the one arm dumbbell row where you choose a flat bench that is high enough to allow you to fully extend your arms without touching the floor. With the bench as a chest support, perform the row.

Thanks alot for the quick responses guys.

Good answers on the drag curl.
And the high bench dumbbell row is done on a very high bench that allows you to fully extend your arms. It can be done with your elbow close to your sides to work the lats or with the elbows out to work the upper and middle back.
These exercises were developed before the onset on machines. Today you can usually fine a machine that allows you to do these movements.

C.C. you forgot Vinces favorite “12 oz one arm curl”

No. Vince preferred the 1 oz. curl.
