Demo - what can I say, I’m an engineer!
Good God!!! Raging Bull has to be one of the worst movies ever made!!! It was lame, stupid, and shows that even great actors like Robert De Niro can play certain roles terribly. If you like Robert De Niro, watch The Godfather PII, The Deer Hunter, or Taxi Driver. If you like boxing, watch Rocky. Raging Bull!!! Ha!!! You make me laugh!!! No, but seriously NJRick, I can’t believe you were the first one to mention Raging Bull (or were you?). Whether or not anybody agrees, but Raging Bull is now considered the “best movie of the 80’s”! On top of that, it is now agreed upon by most to be Robert De Niro’s best movie (even Scorcese’s!!!)! On top of that (!!!), it is now generally accepted as the best sports (or sports-themed/related) movie ever made! Anybody can go ahead and dispute or disagree with the above statements, but they are not my opinion. Instead, they are the opinions of most critics and film historians, and even of the American Film Institute itself!!! I believe even Siskel & Ebert hold (or once held for Siskel, God bless him) true to the above statements!!! Trivia question: According to the AFI (American Film Institue), what is the second greatest movie of the 1980’s after Raging Bull?
the usual suspects (if you did not see it you HAVE to), the shining, one flew over the cookoos nest, glory(another MUST),tommy boy (farley at his best), the water boy (sandlers best movie), the natural, the world according to garp (williams’s only good movie), the shawshank redemption, the hustler. peace
Heres a couple of my faves
Office Space: Made by Mike Judge of Beavis and Butthead and King of the hill fame, if you have ever worked in a place with those getting real annoying quality control systems then you will love this flick
SLC PUNK!: Great flick about 2 punkers growing up in Salt Lake City back in the 80’s. Think Ferris Bueller on acid
Amityville Horror: I hate fucking old scary houses
Animal House: from what I understand and have heard even though its probably an urban myth, the person who wrote this movie based the Bluto character on a fella they were in school with Named George Dubya.Great flick regardless and me and bluto had about the same gpa lol
The whole 9 yards: with bruce willis, matthew perry, and that big huge fucker from the green mile it is just a good funny flick based and filmed in the beautiful city of montreal.
Last but not least
A fish called Wanda: to me one of the funniest films of all time. Kevin Kline was hilarious in this flick.
I give up. Which film is rated second best of the 80’s?
Also wanted to add Scarface, Jaws, Amadeus, Out of Africa and The Gods Must Be Crazy to the list.
Also look into Jim Jarmusch(Director, Writer, Producer), his films have garnered multiple awards. “Dead Man” is one of my favorites. A western that stars Johnny Depp.
How in the WORLD could I forget some of the most “cult famous” words uttered in movie history? (Perhaps second to only “AHL BE BAHK!” uttered by Arnold NO-last-name-neccesary or “Go Ahead…make my day” by Dirty Harry Himself…or “Lemme Intro-doose You To My Two Little Friends” by Pacino in “ScarFace”…)
“Yippy-Yi-Yo-Ki-YAY! Mother F*@#er!” Uttered by Bruce Willis in “Die Hard”!
ROBOCOP!!
Pulp Fiction, Top Gun, Swingers, Fight Club, American Beauty, Terminator 2, Anything from Kevin Smith, Any Adam Sandler movie, Legends of the Fall, The Usual Suspects, Star Wars Trilogy, Good Will Hunting. Fight Club, Fight Club, Fight Club!!
According to the AFI (American Film Institute), the 6 greatest films of the 1980’s are (in order):
- Raging Bull
- E.T.
- Amadeus
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Tootsie
- Platoon
The above 6 movies are the only 80’s movies that were inducted into the list of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Movies Ever Made.
For those who are curious, the greatest movies of the past decade are as follows:
- Schindler’s List
- The Silence of the Lambs
- Forrest Gump
- Dances With Wolves
- Fargo
- Goodfellas
- Pulp Fiction
Every movie in the list was made in the first 100 years of filmmaking (hence the name, "100 Years...100 Movies"), and I belive the cut-off year was 1996. So 90's movies like Titanic and Saving Private Ryan, both possibly would-be films, were either disqualified (Titanic) or came out after the list was already released (Saving Private Ryan). Same goes for American Beauty or Gladiator, movies that also would've been considered.
