Video Games Thread

I’m playing a lot of GOW 2. Cruised through it fairly quickly and am now stopped at the final Zeus fight. But the game I always come back to is Civilization on the PC. The latest one is Civ 4 i think. The game play isn’t great, it is turn based, but I have a blast each time i turn it on. It consumes hours of my life at a time.

But one thing I wanted to ask everybody here is if they know when the next Gran Turismo is coming out. That game is close to heroin in its addicitiveness for me.

I just saw this thread pop up again. Some of these game I haven’t played. Spec. the Darkness. But they look like fun.

I am currently playing Neverwinter Nights 2. Scratch that–NWN 2 is currently playing me. I routinely play for 7-8 hours at a time. I haven’t been this addicted to a game since I was 14. Heck, until I bought this game, I hadn’t even played ANY video games for about 6 months. Didn’t miss them at all(with the exception of a Halo fragfest once in a while).

I didn’t have the attention span to sit in one space for that long. I never really got into any RPGs, other than Chronotrigger and Earthbound, and the original FF. Every time I tried, I’d get bored in a couple days and delete the game. I thought I’d give this game a try, and now it’s EATING MY SOUL. I’m losing sleep over this game, a first since junior high. Can’t recommend it enough, although I can say that I’m really looking forward to finish this game so I can reclaim my life :). This is one of those games that I can see having serious draw for the first 3-4 times you replay the story, b/c of the different good/evil alignments and their effects on character dev.

It is a resource hog though, so make sure your PC’s running well. That’s really the only down side, besides a couple minor bugs that come and go.
So, buy this, but beware because you may become a hermit for a couple weeks.

Grand Turismo 5 Prologue will in fact be out this year. GT5 will be sometime in 2008.
Here is the video form E3. Note: This is ALL in game footage.

Also if you havent checked out the ingame footage of the new killzone, i suggest you do that.

WTF, what do you think I found 15 random pics of some dude and use them in my profile?

I mean it doesn’t take but 1.5 hrs out of 24 to workout, and its not like bb-ing is my only hobby.

Geez, I guess thats the thanks you get for taking the time to help people.

Big Ben, I’m joking. You take things too seriously man. Seriously, just a joke. Friends?? If I ever get a 360, I’ll join your clan or something.

For real, don’t kick my ass.

For all you DS owners out there, I’d recommened Hotel Dusk: Room 215. It’s made by Cing, the same people behind Trace Memory.

You don’t shoot, punch, kick or do any action moves in the game; but you do search for clues and solve puzzles to unlock the next step in the story. All the action is controlled by the stylus.

There’s a lot of reading, but if you like a good story, you won’t mind the dialogue (even though I wish there’d been SOME voice acting).

The story is kind of a play off the old Fim Noir movies, and the graphics are similar to those used in the A-Ha “Take on Me” video (for those that grew up in the 80’s).

Definitely recommened this title if you haven’t played it yet.

Spider-Man 3 is also very good for the DS. You use the stylus for all the action moves, and it works surprisingly well.[/quote]

I am a DS owner and have played Spiderman 3. I will have to check out that hotel one. So far all of the mario games have been awesome. Also, Metroid is awesome once you figure out the best way to use the controls.

I am pumped for Zelda.

I too, am pumped for Zelda. I think it’s going to be really good. There’s a lot of stylus control in this game as well.

New Super Mario Bros. owned me for like 2 months straight. I played through it 3-4 times and really enjoyed all the mini-games. It was the reason I bought my DS. I need to go back and play it again.

I’m also looking forward to:
Sonic Rush: Adventure
Contra 4
Ninja Gaiden

DBZ Tenkachi 3

Aug 14th is the release date of Two Worlds which looks like a mash-up of Oblivion/Knights of the Old Republic/Fable.

Perfect for role playing geeks like me.

Anyone here get All-Pro Football 2K8 yet?

I’ve heard great things about the gameplay so far (very similar to 2K5, which is widely considered one of the best, if not the best, football game of all-time). Yes it kind of sucks there’s no franchise, but there are online leagues, which I think, is a great feature.

I think I might rent the Darkness after Big Ben’s great write-up. Sounds like a fun action game.

All Pro 2K8 kicks ass. Online play is amazing, if you like football games, get it!!

As for the darkness, that game is just plain fun!!

I recommend both very highly.

I’m waiting for a price drop before I pick up All-Pro…I bet when Madden comes out, 2K will drop it to $49.99.

Speaking of Madden, who here is getting the game? It seems that a lot of people are down on the series since it made the jump to the next-gen. I have a copy of '07 and aside from the fatigue glitch (guys never get tired), I thought it was a good game; not at the level of say, '03 or '04, but still a good game.

Thoughts?

Oh, and I’m currently playing:
Madden '07 (360)
NBA 2K7 (360)
Transformers: Autobots (DS)

Why the hell doesn’t anybody play fight night. Fuck Madden and All Pro! Jeez.

So what makes All Pro so good? I’ve always been Madden fan myself.

I LOVE Fight Night! Seriously one of my favorite games for the 360. I’ll often play it before one of my BJJ or muay Thai classes, just to get me fired up. I just won the middleweight title with my created fighter; now I’m working on defending it against the legends. After that I’ll probably move up to LHW.

All-Pro is considered so good because 2K’s game engine is nearly perfect. If you’re looking for a pure sim title, this is the game to get. 2K5 is perhaps the most complete football game ever made.

I used to be a huge Madden fan, but I switched over in 2005 to 2K and was blown away by the difference. Don’t get me wrong, I like Madden, but if you were to play it after playing 2K, you’d see how it’s hard to go back.

Of course now that EA owns exclusive NFL rights, if you want to play an NFL game, you have to buy Madden.

Hmmm…I think I might buy both.

But man, you need to play fight night against another person. There is nothing like it. If you had Live account I’d play you in a couple of months once I get my job.

I’m thinking the same thing on the football titles, although I’m going to hold off on Madden for a few months and do some reading on the various forums to see what the feedback is.

Oh yeah, 2-player Fight Night is top notch. We’ve had some legendary battles here at my house. My wife has even gotten pretty good at the game, which is cool.

I need to get my XBL account activated. I’m still running on dial-up, but am making the move to broadband shortly.

Dial up

Flashbacks ensue

The horror.

I have broadband at my office and that’s where I do the majority of my online work and browsing. I only use my home CPU for work and to check e-mail.

Smart move. You might not want to waste the money on the account unless you REALLY want to play online. You have a good thing going.

God damn it, it is all about Counter Strike Source.
