PS3 or Wii?

They are coming out very soon, scheduled for November, which is the best?

I really like Grand Theft Auto. The new one will come out November 2007, im guessing it wont come out on the Wii.

well considering you can buy an xbox 360 and a nintendo wii BOTH together for less than 1 ps3, you make the call.

Is it for you or for kids?

If just for you get a Xbox 360. GTA will be on the 360 same day as the ps3 version.

Personally i would go with the Wii, but im just a poor college student and cant put down the $700 the PS3 is rumored to sell for, plus i enjoy Zelda and Mario. I already have a Xbox360 (dont have much time to play right now) which GTA will come out for. I think a better question for you would be 360 or PS3 each will come out with more comparable games, the Wii will have more games that are not on these two.

And GTA will have extra content on the 360.

I think I might be getting the Wii because the prices for all of them are rediculous. I doubt I’ll even get any of them for a year or so just because the price is so high! This crap is out of hand in my opinion.

Depends what you mean by ‘best’ though, surely?

Graphics-wise, of the two, it has to be the PS3.

If it’s money-wise, the only corner Nintendo have on the gaming market these days is that they are cheaper than everything else.

Personally, the Wii looks gimmicky to me - from the name to the ‘new style’ controller. Nintendo can’t match the graphics put out by Sony or Microsoft, so they resort to gimmicky things. The Wii might keep you or your kids entertained for an afternoon, but you’ll want your PS or your XBOX when you want a real gaming experience.

That’s why I am sticking with Playstation. the new one is supposed to be an entire entertainment system, right?

I just heard on the news this morning that Sony will be “slashing” prices to compete with Microsoft…

They didn’t list a price.

I live in Toronto, Canada. I don’t know if it applies to people living in the states.

And not on the PS3? At 150% of the price, the PS3 will obviously be the superior hardware, and we all know who has the largest library. I will get a PS3, but I’m gonna wait a few months, one, to save up, and two, to see what problems it has. It may have less than the 360, though, since it wasn’t rushed to market. Shit, they are selling auxillary fans, replacement power cords, they have been freezing up, I hope the later 360’s lick all that shit.

The Wii I just don’t know about. I remember when Nintendo was king. After they turned Sony down, it all started going downhill. The Gamecube is the one bright spot.

How the hell did my post start the thread?

It will have a next generation media format, Blu-Ray. Nobody knows what format, if any, will dominated the next movie storage format. Most people believe HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be niche formats and neither will take off. Dont bas your opinion off of that.

Both systems are pretty even graphics wise. It comes down to the games you will want to play. If you still play your old PS2 games then stick with Sony. If you want to game online go with the 360.

As for the pice drop fellas its just for Japan right now. Hopefully they will do it in the USA also.

Doesnt matter to me I’m getting 5 of them and I’m putting those bitches up on Ebay.

The Wii is a kids machine and thats all. I may get one but just for the retro (NES, SNES, and N64) games you will be able to download.

gimmicky? remember thats what everyone thought about the DS, and that the psp was gonna reign as king of all handhelds, now look at it the psp is nothing but a paperweight.

but in regards to what to get, after all the news i heard about the sony camp i really dont think im at all interested in the ps3 anymore, most of the games coming to the ps3 are gonna be on the 360, and also as of right now sony hasnt officially stated what their online features were like (to me online is the only reason i play games).

And to the person who said something about a price cut on the ps3, its only for japan.

Twilight Princess > any PS3 game for the next 2 years, or ever.

Wii.

Since this has been discussed in detail before.

Wii is not HD, that for me is a poor design choice. However the fact that it is Nintendo and they have Zelda, I will buy it. Not convinced on the controllers. Either I’ll love it or hate it.

PS3 on the other hand should be kickass.

My PSP is more than a paperweight. I would definitely put it ABOVE the DS.

I know there is alot of debate as far as which console will be better and my answer to that is that the consoles are only as good as the games that come out for them.
Graphics, HD movie playback, online services, and controllers are all very important but they are not the end all be all. I agree that one should not buy a PS3 just for the Blu-Ray format and likewise and XBOX 360 just for the HD-DVD format. Five years from now either one of those formats could be the next Betamax.

I buy systems based on the games. I bought a PS for Metal Gear Solid, PS2 for Metal Gear Solid 2, XBOX for Halo, I almost bought a Gamecube just to play Resident Evil 4 but luckily it got ported over to the PS2. So guess what this means. I will be buying a XBOX 360 for Halo 3 and a PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4 and if a killer game comes out for the Wii I will probably buy it as well. Oh bother.

I would not use the price point of Sony as some determining factor over “superior” hardware in this debate. Sony is certainly going with some expensive hardware with the Blu-ray DVDs, but given that it has not even been settled out yet what will be the HD format of choice, I am not sold.

It all comes down to a few things:

  1. Who has the best games. You can have all the processing horsepower in the world and if no one unleashes it, it’s pretty pointless.

  2. In terms of all the nice doo-dads (HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, etc.) it depends on whether people see it as a true value add for the price. I might look at a movie played on my XBox 360, for instance, and then see one played on the HD-DVD they have out for it now for $150 more and think, “Damn, that barely recognizable shift in picture quality ain’t worth 150 beans.”

  3. PS2 had the larger software library because it had the head start. With that not being the case now, it’s hard to say who will win out.

I think the Wii will have a certain audience to it, but I honestly think it will end up being more like the Macs of gaming system - some hard core devoted fans, but never really the same level of player at the table as Microsoft or Sony.

I would say it is out of hand if people were buying new systems every year. I’ve had my PS2 for at least 5 years. if the PS3 lasts even another 4 years it should be worth the investment. My original PS1 is collecting dust but still works. What was making the PS3 stand out to me was its use as an entertainment system and not just its use to play games. If that is what it functions as, I can see buying one.

Like was said, no one knows the next step in recording technology. Either way, I’ll be stuck with a shitload of DVD’s and will be pissed regardless of they ever stop making DVD players.
