Video Games Thread

I’m currently playing Tomb Raider: Anniversary and UT 2004. My daughter and I will fire up Soul Caliber II and Tekken 5 here and there. UT3 looks promising (comes out in Nov), but the system specs needed may delay my purchase.

No game could ever compare to Madden. Yes, Madden on 360 was HORRIBLE in looks and game play. But it takes time. All Pro will get stomped out.

Any news on another Fight Night?

Madden is the worst Football series ever. We STILL play 2k5 despite have Madden '07 and NCAA '07. All Pro is going to STOMP Madden into the dirt.

Anyways. Assassin’s Creed. Looks to be absolutely amazing. Fallout 3 is also shaping up really well.

Ren, you’re right on with 2K5. I still can’t believe they sold that for $19.99 right out of the gate.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the year after 2K5 was released that EA snatched up the exclusive NFL license. They knew they were lagging behind in the gameplay department and 2K’s visuals were starting to surpass them, so EA used it’s pocketbook and eliminated its competition.

And what’s happened to Madden since then? The franchise has sucked hard the last 2 years. The games are getting worse, not better.

Maybe 2K can inject some new life into the Madden producers and they’ll put forth a worthy effort. No way I’m paying full price for another Madden game, though, after getting burned the last 2 years just b/c I wanted an NFL game.
Yeah, we rock the 2K sports games on our consoles, they blow EA completely out of the water.

Holy hell yes, just played The Darkness last night, and I gotta say this is the best looking game I’ve ever played.

Character detail, animations, and the demons are freaking insane looking.

If every game looked this good I’d buy them all.

And the tv’s in the game you can change the channels and watch full length movies!! Its crazy.

The best looking game to date on 360 in my opinion.

I’ve always been into PC games as opposed to consoles.

Some of my fav PC games are:
Max Payne
Serious Sam I and II
Deus Ex
Warcraft
Starcraft

I did enjoy my PS1 while I had it. I loved the Crash Bandicoot series as well as Gran Turismo.

I spent an entire summer playing Sega GT on the xbox I love that game.
I hear ya, I was the same way till technology took the next step, then I said no way am I spending $1000(+) on another computer when all I did was game and internet on it.

$400 for the 360 seemed steep at first but man the games awesome now.

Yeah its pretty, but how’s the game play. And can you actually wear the costume he had in the comic book. But yeah, tell more about the gameplay.

Gameplay is smooth, some homeless guy was talking to me, I whipped out a gun, the guy says to put the gun away.

The guy’s girlfriend tells him to come sit with her and watch tv. So you move the guy to the couch, sit down. She moves in close grabs the remote and starts flipping channels, then leans into him. Then eventually falls asleep, then you get up. I went to one end of the room and came back quickly and she jumped up and was like is everything okay, whats a matter?!

Shooting the guns, smoke comes out the barrels and when you move it moves.

You can move around some levels open ended, then some parts its a linear set path some doors open, others don’t.

When you look down you see his body, one thing that pisses me off about other FPS’s.

You can shoot out lights, dial phone numbers on payphones, talking to people you get short sayings then people you are suppost to, you pick what you want to say but not the exact verses. Like it’ll say Tell the whole story, Just the Facts, or Lie.

When you get shot, the screen starts getting blurry and turns red, so you take cover and you slowly go back to normal.

The demons that come out of him, you can bring out and retract. One button it detaches and you control where it goes and you can sneek up and special kill guys. So does Jacky, if you sneak up he’ll do a special kill. Other demons can come out of a hole in the ground you only see when the body demons are out. Then the demon force comes on once in awhile and talks to you, just about makes you jump out of your chair.

So far the guy is wearing a trench coat and a zip up sweater, black pants.

Its bad ass dude, and the graphics are so clear and textured its crazy man. One of the best shooters I’ve play…or the best really to tell you the truth. Between graphics/controls/interaction its great.

I can usually find flaws in games, that its like why didn’t they add that or do this. And this doesn’t have any really, it would be nice if you could stick to walls and peek around corners, but it sort of puts one hand around a corner when you move in close. And he doesn’t run as fast as I’d like sometimes but its not that bad. The pushing up against walls would have been nice though. I think Rainbow 6:Vegas spoiled me on that one.

And he does carry 2 handguns by the way…sweeeet!

I’d give it a 10/10, and I’ve only gotten probably 2-3 hours into it.

I think I forgot to mention, after you kill people you are supposed to let the inner demons eat their hearts out…that animation is worth buying the game right there!!!

At one point the 2 demons fought over it and tore it apart. I just about blew in my pants when it did that.

Pic of the inner demons out…

Best games of all time:

 1. Final Fantasy VII
 2. Metal Gear Solid
 3. God of War I/II

Just remembered Mech commander…awesome game.

Half life is still the gold standard for me.

Has anyone here played and finished Baldurs Gate 2? I got as far as the battle against the main character in the elf city but he kept spankin my ass.

The reason I ask is because If theat is the last battle in the game then I couldn’t be bothereed putting in all those hours upon hours to get there again.

OMC

Rather in-depth post by Big Ben. Makes me question his avatar for a 2nd time.

On a side note: MGS4

I’m playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 right now, and Forza 2 on 360. Ninja Gaiden is famously hard. Most of the game is actually very manageable as far as difficulty, once you’re played a few hours and get the hang of it, but there are a few enemies that make me want to smash the controller. And these aren’t bosses; they’re regular, everyday foot soldier types. It’s very challenging, and the camera system just stinks, but learning the combat system is very rewarding and it looks great if you’re on a HDTV.

If you’re looking for a game that makes getting your ass kicked feel rewarding, I recommend it.

This is why I miss playing online. Commentary like this is priceless.

Second the first two.

Never played the GOW series at all.
FF7 was the reason I owned a ps1.

If we’re talking best games console games of all time, I would nominate Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

For all you DS owners out there, I’d recommened Hotel Dusk: Room 215. It’s made by Cing, the same people behind Trace Memory.

You don’t shoot, punch, kick or do any action moves in the game; but you do search for clues and solve puzzles to unlock the next step in the story. All the action is controlled by the stylus.

There’s a lot of reading, but if you like a good story, you won’t mind the dialogue (even though I wish there’d been SOME voice acting).

The story is kind of a play off the old Fim Noir movies, and the graphics are similar to those used in the A-Ha “Take on Me” video (for those that grew up in the 80’s).

Definitely recommened this title if you haven’t played it yet.

Spider-Man 3 is also very good for the DS. You use the stylus for all the action moves, and it works surprisingly well.

I’m playing Command n Conquers Generals…this afternoon I’m going to the mall to see if I can find the expansion : zero-hour.

I dunno if anyone is into RPG’s or action RPG’s, but I think Fallout and Fallout 2 for the PC are really great.

Has anyone played Fable for the xbox? I had alot of fun with that game, I wish it was more open ended though.

-Mario Kart
-007 Goldeneye
-Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
-Halo

I have always thought Halo was a good party game.

That is if you can connect multiple xbox’s together and have a mini LAN party.

But I never understood the hype for the game, it had a fairly original story, aliens coming to take over the world and you take the role of a super human who is in the military.

But it still is good fun.
I especially like getting the grenades and blowing the warthogs up and over the level with the island.
