According to interviews Vic was 210lbs-215lbs aged 15, before he even touched a weight. Both his parents were in the medical profession. Now, either you accept that Butt’s formulae do not apply to genetic freaks, or you have to come up with an explanation that involves a 15/16 year-old kid being on steroids. Good luck with that.[/quote]
thats not really hard, especially when both his rents are in the medical field. Don’t pretend “no doctor would ever give his son steroids at a young age” as a counter. If he played football, his coach probably could have given them to him. I’m not screaming steroids, but the plausibility is rampant in this day and age
I don’t know if he was or wasn’t on steroids. Don’t really care, he was a beast. But I have trained clients who played college ball. They’d all get stacks from a player’s dad who was a MD.

Great thread
In two of the interviews I have heard the man say that he, at the time, felt that the unhealthy practices for getting the necessary ‘dryness’ to win shows was the culprit for him not wanting to compete. Bodybuilding to him was a soulful activity he said and why do something that could kill you? As a physician’s son he must have been much better aware of the detrimental health effects of diuretics and the like and I cannot help but think that this shaped his reasoning. And though he admits to using steroids, they simply do not carry the same health issues (if at all…) as what you do to get dry as hell on stage.
And mind you, in those same interviews I remember him saying that with guest posing he was making more money then ANY other pro-bodybuilder alive, including Mr. Olympia so why sacrifice your health for a trophy that might fall apart on the same day as getting it? (his words paraphrased)
From a business perspective it is also not a bad idea to stay in the ‘myth zone’ and let people think what it. it keeps them interested in you for a long long time. Hell, i remember him doing guest appearances for at least 15 years. How many Mr. Olympia’s can say the same thing?
There is more money in it now of course but we all know that they are NOT healthy on stage.
ah well, my 2 cents. my all time favorite bodybuilder. I grew up praying to God i could look like him
At the time too, the money
Ive never heard of this guy before

And now you’ll never forget him.
Vic is one of those dudes who even though isn’t competing, he’s always in the back of your mind like a massive shadow. Like Sergio.

Vic doesn’t hold a candle to Sergio. He made a career off of never stepping on stage, at the end of the day he was scared to get on stage with the big boys. Making excuses like “health” and “I just bodybuild to for myself” is a direct contradiction in terms of staying 300+ pounds and taking plenty of “supplements.”
He may have been a big guy, but some people act like he’s the bees knees. Bodybuilding is about what you look like on stage, being big in the offseason is one thing. Getting lean is another, but stepping on stage and doing battle with the best is the only true test and Vic never did that.

He was “scared”? You guys do a lot of judging based on not much but bias.
Why even be that negative to someone who is now in their 40’s and has proven that he lived his whole life in bodybuilding?
I still agree with Vic. Most BB’ers look way more powerful and healthier at ~8-12 weeks out.

‘NO HOMO’ lol
Seriously though how did he make a living, i’m curious. That picture of him at 16 (ridiculous) makes me think he could have made a good life just extorting ALL the other kids. Imagine if that kid went to your school…

There’s nothing negative about that, he made some pretty ridiculous claims and never stepped on stage. He was a big guy, but to compare to Sergio is way over the top. He may have done well in the IFBB, we’ll never know.

I didn’t compare him to Sergio. I used Sergio as an example of a bodybuilder who everyone knows of, and has a reputation of note. Vic is like that. Most of us know him for his sheer size, which makes him a remarkable stand-out.
And who are you to define what a bodybuilder is? Just because Vic didn’t compete doesn’t mean he’s not a bodybuilder. Vincent Van Gogh never made a living from his paintings, but does that mean he wasn’t an artist? That fucker changed art history!

He’s 20 ID. He knows everything, remember? Us old guys realize we don’t know everything and we understand doing something for the pure enjoyment of it and for ourselves, not because of what someone else wants.
Lol strong butthurt. I’m not going to get into debating definitions of what a bodybuilder is and isn’t. I just find it funny how people act like Victor Richards is the best thing ever because of some offseason/teenage pics.

If he’s not one of your ideals, that’s perfectly fine. It doesn’t seem fitting to make judgements of character based on things like that though.
