Apparently Vic Martinez has seriously broken his arm in three places while arm wrestling for a photo shoot in Mexico, where his opponent slammed his arm down “for a joke.”
Seems difficult to believe he could have such a bad injury (3 breaks!) from it, but there you go.

Damn shame. How long will this put him on the sidelines? You need your arms for damn near everything.
Maybe for good. That’s a severe injury and Vic is in his late 30’s or early 40’s. That is one bodybuilder whose life has been fairly difficult…and most of it has been public.

No you don’t.
Ab straps and cables my man

Yeah, but depending on where those 3 breaks are, even those things you recommend could be problematic.
When my fingers were broken, I spent months using those powerlifting hooks for everything. But like you said…this is an arm break. Also, for those wondering how that happens, if the edge of the table had anything to do with it, that could happen very easily. Most arm wrestlers aren’t weak…and any time you spar or fight someone way smaller, they feel some need to throw in more power because of the size of the opponent…just for fun.

Not trying to diminish bodybuilders’ abilities, but if I were at that level, I’d take care not to engage in activities that could cause possible injuries. I’m also thinking of Joel Stubbs’ horrific basketball accident!
It’s bad enough some guys (like Dorian Yates) actually sustained injuries while training - but way worse when it happens, and the surgery turns out to destroy your life (Orville Burke).
Yeah, I know… freak accidents happen. But I think being a bit of a prima donna in how one behaves might not be a bad idea for a top level competitor who relies solely on physical perfection to make his living.

what happened?
I am amazed he could break his arm so badly in an arm wrestle without the other guy trying his absolute hardest to intentionally hurt him.
He did…for fun. That is how people act when they see someone that muscular. They try to “test” it…especially other strength trainers. The guy who broke his arm is probably proud of it.
I had a guy ask me to arm wrestle when I was on vacation. He looked pretty weak like I could take him, but I was pretty drunk and didn’t know what was going on. After that video I’m glad I said no. It looks like if the muscle charlie horses anything could happen

I think I read that it was for a photoshoot or something and the arm wrestle was staged. The guy he was posing with decided to slam his arm down even though they had no intention to actually arm wrestle.
EDIT: To add to this, arm wrestling is always about strength or size but more technique. It’s also a completely unnatural position to have your arm in so if someone has you down like that then a break is very possible. I always say no to people if they ask more because I’m useless at them but now I have another reason.
I remember a few years ago, I was emailing Cordova a lot, and we were talking about an upcoming snowboarding trip I was going on. He initially was thinking about taking a try himself, but then decided it wasn’t worth the risk to his career. Not that bodybuilders can’t be athletic or strong, but it’s not the goal, and can sometimes risk derailing your ultimate plans.
i feel bad for Vic,… wonder if MHP will stick by him like they did during his visa issues.
