Enough! I gotta step in here. Brandon, no Oly lifter can beat any elite sprinter (sub 10 or close to it). That type of belief comes from people in certain cirlcles sitting around talking shit. It’s urban legendish.
Enough in reverse.I venture to say that MOST Oly lifters(in the lighter classes) will beat world class sprinters in the start and out to 6 or 7 “strides”! This based on direct communication with a ex-USSR sprint coach and Soviet data

question’s are, though, how do we know the ex-USSR sprint coach has the 411 on this subject? and how do we know what the soviet data says or if it’s even tested properly?

good coaches have been wrong and data has been fabricated or misinterpreted. how do we know this is not the case?

i honestly think i could be wrong about my stance on power vs. power endurance, but there are enough ‘ifs’ that are unanswered that im not convinced.

im very skeptical of studies that are publicly discussed yet not of easy public access. i wonder if this is one of those.

I would totally disagree with this. The first 5 meters is where the race is usually one or lost. It takes years and years to perfect an excellent jump out of the gate. Most olympic sprinters have spent there entire lives learning how to get faster out of the gate. I would highly doubt that an olympic lifter would even compare to this level of elite training.

As far as the squat thing goes, from my experience Ive met quite a few decent size guys around 200-225 on my HS football team, back in the day, that could squat 315 for several reps, some close to 20, that would be lucky to run a 5 flat 40. On the flip side of the coin, several of our running backs and revievers all had trouble squatting more that 225, most could only handle around 175 for reps, yet these were guys that ran high 4.6’s and low 4’7’s. Granted these were also lighter guys as well( anywhere from 140’s to 170’s)

But, there wear two guys we had, one our strong saftey and the other a middle linebacker. both these guys were about 175. They could power clean like crazy. They both squated 315 for double digit reps and ran low 4.7’s.
