Velocity Diet Results

Below is a report by my wife of our experience on the Velocity Diet. It is more from her view since she referenced her journal to write it.

We started with 20 jars of Grow!, eight bags of milled flax seed, five jars of Surge, three bottles of HOT-ROX, and a bottle of fish oil and flax seed oil from Sam’s. I also used Alpha Male during and M after.

Our workout was upper, lower, rest, upper, lower, rest, rest.

We were very pleased with our results. If you have any questions not answered here feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer them.

Velocity Diet Report

Him: 32 years old, 6?6?, 26 pounds lost in 26 days
Her: 30 years old, 5?6?, 15 pounds lost in 15 days

The beginning
For four weeks preceding the start of the V-Diet, we had been on a high protein, high fat regimen. I?d been taking HOT-ROX for those four weeks, and we were going to the gym to lift 4 nights a week (but no cardio). My muscles were definitely firmer, but I hadn?t lost any weight at all on the scale.

The weekend before we started the V-Diet, we went on vacation with family and ate ? well, vacation food: ice cream, pizza, burgers, snack cakes. We arrived home from vacation feeling awful, and totally ready for some dietary discipline.

The first day of the V-Diet, I felt bloated from guzzling what seemed like a lot of shakes, and the lukewarm Surge drink I had post-workout was hard to get down. I felt too full still at 9:30 p.m. to drink my last shake of the day, and I had a really hard time getting to sleep.

I felt woozy around mid-afternoon on the first few days (which I learned was typical of the carb depletion I was going through), but I felt great during most of the day – very alert and energized. By the end of the fist week, I was going go to sleep at night without any problems at all. And the good news is, things only got better from there.

Our routine
I ended up having shakes (2 scoops Grow! in various flavor combinations + about 12 oz. water) at 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9:30 p.m. Christopher had six shakes a day (2 scoops Grow! + 16 oz. water) at 7:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.

With the first 4 shakes of the day, I also slugged back a separate drink of 2 tablespoons of milled flax seed mixed with about 1/2 cup of very cold water. Christopher added his milled flax seed to his shakes and loved it, but I just didn?t like having all those chunks in my drinks, so the flax seed shooter worked better for me.

On workout days, we had Surge to sip on during and after our workout. I found that having it really cold made it much easier for me to drink, and I never had a problem after the first day. In fact, we both started really looking forward to drinking the Surge because of the simple carb boost.

On non-workout days, we took fish oil pills (first three meals) and flax seed oil pills (last two meals for me, last three meals for Christopher). I took HOT-ROX first thing in the morning and again around 1 p.m. (3 pills each time). Christopher took HOT-ROX and Alpha Male at 8 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.

The benefits
One thing that was awesome was never having to worry about planning, shopping for, fixing, or cleaning up after meals. That was one of my favorite things about the diet.

The most surprising thing about the V-Diet was that I rarely felt hungry ? and if I did, it was usually really close to time for my next shake. I didn?t go to bed feeling hungry, and I didn?t feel deprived. The first week, I wanted food and had some very intense cravings, but I found that writing them down helped get them out of my head. It also helped to remind myself that on Saturday I?d get a meal (I highly recommend the weekly social meal ? I must say, the salad and steak I ate at the end of my first week was the best thing I?ve ever tasted). I think Christopher?s cravings hit the Thursday of the fourth week and I was just getting really bored with shakes by then. And I really didn?t want anything sweet at all, pretty much the whole time we were on the diet (amazing because I have a serious love for all things sweet). I just wanted chicken and vegetables and brown rice and wheat toast. Well, and also pizza.

When we finished the V-Diet, I really felt like I?d accomplished something. I used a Chris Shugart quote from the T-Nation boards for inspiration: “Not quitting is the first and most important step.” I?ve tried several different diets over the years (with moderate success followed by re-gaining the weight, of course) and generally felt I didn?t have much self-control or discipline. Doing the Velocity Diet was tough, but I was really proud of myself when I finished, and now, about a month later, I?ve only gained back about 2 pounds.

Your journal came at a perfect time since I starte the diet 3 days ago. Helps to read the great results you 2 has with it. I’ve had the same woozy feeling and problems falling asleep as well and hopefully they will soon pass.

My only problems so far is that I’m a paramedic and yesterday went out early at work without my bag of stuff and didn’t get back to have my second shake for over 6hrs, that won’t happen again. Plus with starting work at 6:00 it’s tuff getting the walks in first thing in the morning. Just hope it gets easier as you said.

Nice results! Thanks for posting the writeup…

Awsome work! Let us know how you are with the weight loss/gain in 2-3 weeks. Thanks!

Excellent post and great results! Kudos on your hard work! What’s your next step?

Great work!!!

Seeing this results thread reminds me…when are we gonna see the post Velocity Diet pics from Shugs hot wife?

I am glad the timing is good for you. As you found out it is very important to not miss a “meal”.

Just make sure to stick with it. Quitting is not an option! It will get easier. Just try to view food as fuel and try to push off any cravings by thinking about how great that one solid meal is going to be.

You are welcome and thank you for your post. I sent updates to Shugart during and after the diet, and he suggested posting our results on a thread. We hope that it will help those currently doing it, and encourage those who are thinking about it.

Thanks!

Tomorrow will be the fifth week after we finished. I am still 20-22 pounds down from my starting weight. Other than the obvious water gain after transitioning off the diet, the few other pounds seem to be mostly muscle. I do not believe much, if any, of it is fat. Catherine has only gained back two pounds, so I think she is doing excellent.

Thank you! As I have told you, you have been an inspiration to me and Catherine both.

After we finished the transition phase, we started a new routine. Catherine is trying to continue to add muscle, lose fat, and add strength. She dead lifted 155 pounds last Friday. I am very proud of her progress. I am trying to add more muscle.

After we finish our current program and start our week off, we will assess future programs and goals. As I have shared with you, Catherine has a goal to chin body weight, and I have a goal to chin body weight for 3x8. We are both approaching that soon!

Photos, we need to see photos, i started today and my wife thinks im crazy , please post some photos so i can prove to her it works, thanks for the post, really helpfull

Well, I must be honest. We took before pictures, but did not take after pictures. We only had an old digital camera at the time, so the pictures aren’t so great. We have a new high quality one now, so maybe I could send my before and afters to anyone interested. If interested please PM me.

Before and after pictures are great, but trust me, this diet works. I lost 26 pounds in 26 days with very little, if any, muscle loss.

Week 1 went well. Lost 8lbs. and 1" off my gut. I did have 1 set back and ate a very small sliver of pizza when making dinner for my kids.

Second week has been tuff. The cravings for solid food are killing me. I’m not hungry but just want to eat real food. It was even worse after the solid meal following week 1. Almost broke down and quit 1 night because of several reasons but made it through and still going.

My wife and I are on day 2 of the velocity diet. I could eat the south end out of a north bound mule right now. We took circumference and body fat % before we started. I will post updates and stats if I do not lose my mind.

I’m starting my velocity diet today. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I’ve bee training for a solid 18 months now. I want to get ripped. That will take some time though because I’m 315. However, I’m a big 315 like a college lineman with a gut. Anyhow, I will be interested to see what the progress is.

I’ve made it into week 3 now. Lost 11lbs. total & still only the 1" off my gut. The solid meals at the end of the week deffinetly help out. The cravings for things are still their though.

The walks have become a lot easier and the work outs are very good. My lifts haven’t suffered because of it.

I just keep thinking, “quiting is not an option.”

where are the photos???

congrats, i really gotta try this.
