V-Diet Progress

Yeah,I’m gonna do a cutting phase and drop my calories slowly for the month of april(about 2,500 cal),then after dieting for that month I’m gonna hit the V-diet in may.Thats my plan.I’m not fat or anything,I just got some weight I wanna get rid of because I just got done bulking.I’m going to England for the summer and wanna look somewhat good.I’ve always heard of the v-diet and wanted to try it just to get ripped.I was gonna try it before bulking but I thought I could do with some extra mass because nothing is worse then cutting when you have no muscle to show off under the fat.Sometimes it’s good to push your body to the limits.
Thanks for your help.
Lonnie123 wrote:

No,thats how much I eat to keep my weight.
The v-diet calculations say I need around 1,800 on workout days and on off days around 1,500 calories.
Wouldn’t going from 4,500 cal a day to 1,800 be really catabolic for someone who needs 4,500 calories a day?

Ytsnsition is key. You definitely dont want to be eating 4500 calories on sunday and then hit the V-day doing 1800 on Monday. Thats asking for trouble.

As I said before, I think thje V-diet should be used as a final bang, not a jump start. That way you not only make the transition into the diet, but when you are done with it, you are done cutting all together.
You picked the right diet then…

I think the V-diet can be a good kickstart if your eating habbits are shit. It does change your taste and kill bad food cravings, however… I think if you are kind of fat going into it(over 20%) you will be sorely dissapointed at the end of the 4 weeks. You might go from 20% to 16 or 15% but you will still look kind of chunky.

However, if you do a nice slow diet from 20% to 11 or 12 percent, then use the V-diet to get down to 8% or so, I think that is worth the 4 weeks of shakes. The fat loss only slows down after the V-diet is over.

I can vouch for that… chicken salad on Saturday never tasted so damned good!

DAY SEVEN

Day went well, cravings are gone. Unfortunately, I had a tough time getting to sleep again Sunday evening. Could be cause I slept in by about three hours that morning.

At any rate, today is Day Eight. I weighed in, and have my numbers posted below. Note that my before was actually taken on 3/10, just over a week before I started the V-Diet. At that time I had been running under maintenance for four weeks. During the two weeks leading up to 3/10, however, I was back up to maintenance as I rehabbed a muscle pull.

03/10
186 lbs, 16% BF

03/27
176 lbs, 14.5% BF

Based on the numbers, it looks like the difference in your bodyfat over the past 17 days is 4.24 pounds – out of a 10 pound total bodyweight loss. Not too shabby.

How tall are you?

Agreed. I’ve found the V-Diet to be most useful in stripping 3-4% of bodyfat off my frame (starting at 13-14%), which required about a month without losing muscle.

Yeah, I’m definitely happy about that. I am 5’10."

DAY EIGHT

Missed my walk this morning. Only got about four hours of sleep the night before, so I didn’t even bother trying to get up early. Didn’t make up for it in the evening due to schoolwork. I know, excuses, excuses!

DAY NINE

Workout went well, although I was light-headed for a few seconds after squats and deadlifts. My weight actually climbed a bit on Romanian DLs. All other excercises on my Tuesday lift day seem to have plateaued for now.

Had a strong urge today for solid food again. Thought I had that one beat!

Sounds like you’re where I was a couple of years ago when I first did the V-Diet. The problem you face is a lack of lean muscle mass in relation to the amount of bodyfat you’re carrying. My guess is that you’ll end up at around 170-171 pounds and 11-12% bodyfat. You’ll need to slowly increase your carbs to the point that you begin putting on .5 to .75 pounds a week. In so doing, you’ll begin to put on some lean mass. My own recent experience in doing the foregoing was to add about 4-5 pounds, a good chunk of which I’m convinced is lean muscle mass (with the rest being water weight and a little bit of fat).

The key is to be patient in adding carbs back into your diet, and being willing to cut them back if you see some fat or excessive water gain. Your body isn’t going to like it, but your mind has to be strong.

Sting, thanks for the note. I agree, 170 @ 12% is about where I expect to end up. I plan on slowing adding carbs back in per the original plan, then following CT’s carb cycling codex.

So where are you at now? 175 @ 12%? Do you follow a carb cycling approach?

I’m sitting at around 182-183 in the mornings (fasted state) and get up to around 186 in the evenings, while my bodyfat is probably around 10-11%. My goal is to eat at slighly above maintenance levels (200-300 calories) to add some more lean muscle until I reach around 190 lbs. At that point, I hope that my bodyfat hasn’t changed all that much (maybe it will creep up to 12%). Thereafter, I may do the Velocity Diet one more time (perhaps not the full 28 days) to drop 2-3% bodyfat (approximately 4-6 lbs) bringing me to 185 at 9-10% bodyfat.

I know it seems nitpicky to bounce around the 180-190 range, but if the end result is the foregoing body composition, I’ll take it without complaint.
