Upper Body Imbalance

My chest is bigger than the rest of my body, always has been. I am not complaining about great results, but I have always been striving for a balanced physique.

Like most beginners, I used to bench press a lot, because we were all competing with each other over this exercise. Moreover, I am what CT would call “a torso guy”. My pecs will always respond to a new exercise or routine.

In order to change it, I have been focusing on pull ups and deadlifts for a few months. I only do one basic exercise for my chest(incline or flat bench). But one thing pisses me off. I attend mma, judo , boxing and bjj classes. In EVERY one of these sports, we do endless sets of pushups and abs, we NEVER train the posterior chain or the legs. I think that this BS is not helping me.

We all know how to bring up a lagging body part, but doing the contrary is not a very popular subject.

What are your ideas? Should I stick with push ups?

Be happy that you have a good chest. Don’t focus on bringing your chest down. Just deadlift and squat and so forth until the rest of your body matches your chest.

I agree with the puch up overload BS in martial arts. I was in the same boat as you for awile (big chest/torso). Just do a base amount of chest work so you don’t lose mass and use that saved time and energy on bringing up your other parts. I am glad to see that you are striving towards good balance. I doubt the puchups themselves will derail your goals.
