Because your abs are two different muscles? They aren’t. While “abs” sounds plural, it stands for rectus abdominus. It is ONE muscle and your legs being crossed don’t have jack shit to do with “even abs”.
Also, as far as anyone else trying to diagnose hip displacement or any other abnormality simply because some newbie claims his abs are “uneven”, even though his picture in the other forum shows no signs of an irregularity, I wish you would stop.

Tell me, how do people develop an imbalance between their VM (specifically the VMO) and their VL? It’s all quads performing knee flexion, isn’t it?

Got a link to that pic, Prof?
No one’s trying to diagnose anything. Though you’re right, we should have mentioned something to the tune of “If there appears to be a dysfunction, contact your physician or a biomechanist.” I do apologize for that.

You listen to science, that’s who you listen to. You listen to the fact that the abs are one muscle and any anatomy book will show you that. How about listening to a library card?

Why do you think those muscles gained the synonym, “quads” or “quadriceps”? You are comparing a group of 4 different muscles to the one muscle that is making up your rectus abdominus. Some of you may seriously consider studying a little anatomy before you head back to the gym. That isn’t meant to belittle you. It simply seems that some of you are missing basic concepts.
You can never change the shape of your mucles, only the size.
If your Abs are stacked weird, thats just the way they are. If they look like a brick wall (spaced uneven) instead of bricks stacked on top of each other, then that is genetic and unfixable. If one side is just bigger than the other, that is fixable with proper training.

Increased risk of knee injury (chondramalicia) during knee extension activities. The patella becomes laterally displaced with the pull of the vastus lateralis. This patella tracking problem can produce wear on the inferior petellar surface. Greater pain is usually experienced during leg extension activities in which the knee is a greater than a 20 to 30 degree angle.
* Examples of affected exercises:
o Leg Press
o Squat
o Leg Extension
* Example preventative / corrective exercises:
o Single Leg Extensions (last 20 degrees of extension)
o Leg Press (last 20 degrees of extension)
The pros don’t have funky abs. They have really fucked ups abs, we call them GH guts. Quite digusting really.
Well anyways if your abs are asymmetrical their’s nothing you can do about it. If one side is bigger than the other then you can fix it. Example:My right forearm is bigger than my left. So what you would do in this situation would be working out the left forearm more and cut back on right forearm workouts.
Can we all try referring these scrawny bastards to Massive Eating rather than just insulting them? Maybe that will actually get them to realize they need to gain mass and how to do it. It may be fun to tell some skeleton that they need to gain 50 lbs and insult them in 10 other ways, but if you actually want to help them do it, that’s probably not gonna do anything.
To the original poster: all of these links should get you well on your way assuming you actually want to gain size and look good. Which you should. Seeing your abs at your size is not gonna do it. Good luck!
EDIT-almost forgot this one, Bulking Tips for Newbies:

That’s a matter of opinion. Believe it or not, but I have had a few pm me stating that while they were pissed off at first, that it actually helped changed their minds.

Bad advice. First, if someone actually did have that problem in a muscle group that is NOT divided into two different sides of the body, this would point to a larger problem with posture or possibly a skeletal disorder. Your abs are not right and left. It is ONE muscle group. It is not like your forearms on the right and left sides of your body.
Not only that, but working out the larger muscle group least is usually not the advice given regardless of what group you are talking about. If your right biceps was larger than the left, you should not train the right one less. You should move to unilateral movements (like dumbbell exercises) and continue training each with the same weight until the lagging part catches up. Doing day to day activities with the lagging arm would help as well, not training the larger less.

Fair enough. I believe it. But it probably turns just as many others off to lifting or at least to this site where they’d find great information. It’s not that hard to reference an article that might help. You don’t have to do it. I will, though, when I see threads like this.

That’s all well and good. You be you and I’ll be me. But the point is, none of those articles listed will do a thing as long as the poster still believes they are actually on the right track or that their excuses make up for lack of progress.
This kid posting pics in TWO different threads looking for compliments shows that he actually thinks he made some progress. You can post a few thousand articles and it won’t help someone who can’t even see they are on the wrong track and that they need to stop making excuses. That needs to be addressed and cuddles don’t do so well at actually changing minds.

You are right. A wake-up call is often a necessity for some of these people. I think both are important. Slapping some sense into people is necessary, but I also think it’s important to give people some information to work with once they’ve come around. I just see a lot of these threads where everyone says Eat Big and Lift Hard but give no information or no referals about what Eating Big and Lifting Hard actually is. Some people are ignorant and have no idea.

The kid was given good advice. And no one was jumping on him, until he started making excuses. Then he posted a pic and wanted compliments. He got what he deserved, as does everyone else that comes on and ignores the advice given. Even worse - he makes excuses for his size: “it’s genetic”.
We’ve been treating the dumbass kids like this since I’ve been a member here. I don’t suspect it will change much. Why? Because for everyone one of these celf-worshiping punks, there are ten others out there who might just READ before trying to show off how smart they are.
It’s not the posters that will be helped - they’ve already proved they know more than anyone else on here. It’s the other kids that might learn a thing or two about training if they just keep their mouths shut and read.
That may sound harsh, but we’re not running a damned rec center for wayward teens. I think there are many many more success stories around here because of the honesty of folks like ProfX than there are hurt feelings and whimpering.

This guy is making progress. Half of the idiots claiming their “genetics” keep them from even gaining 5lbs in a year don’t have half of the sense of this kid…even though he still has issues himself.
