The only thing that bothered me with that grip was aching pain in my elbow, but it’s gone now. My dad is no where near flexible enough to get in that position and the bar doesn’t even touch his chest on OHP no matter the weight. It stays at about his chin. What stretches could he do?

I find the crossarmed version difficult to use. The bar just doesn’t feel as stuck on to me and stable.

I have to do the cross armed version. No way I can get into the clean grip without my arms being really wide and than I have issues keeping it there and the bar will slide down my stomach (ow).

Put straps on bar. Hold straps. (Call it an adjustable clean grip for the mobility challenged)

Thats what I do(straps on bar). For some hell of a reason, I cant clean grip front squats.

I’m in West Central Iowa, about 90 minutes or so from Des Moines. However, I will be living in Iowa City next fall (University of Iowa).

Nice, they just built us a $50 million dollar rec center that you’re going to love. We could use some more lifters who bring it!

Yeah, I saw that on a visit last November. I’ll be spending a good chunk of time there. However, I might be able to intern with the strength and conditioning staff, so with any luck I’ll be able to use their facilities.

In related news, I now have another meet to train for, July 9th-10th. Going for 500, 425, 285.

shoulda came to isu, then you coulda lifted with our little team. everyone knows isu is better anyway  also, i would try to find a lifting club or something like we have at isu. i hate the large rec centers as most of them don’t know what’s going on. if you just want to lift, then a rec center is fine, but if you want to train, i would try to find somewhere else.

Do you mean dl, squat , bench? It’s easier to understand if you write it as squat / dl/ bench.

Sorry, I just did a similar thing. Squat/ bench / Deadlift is the order in a meet. Usually people list it that way.

I’ve been at the campus in Ames many times, and I absolutely hate it. Ames is a nice city overall, but Iowa’s campus just felt better to me. Iowa has even more students than State does, so I’ll be able to find people to train with.

Tom, yes, that is dl/squat/bench, sorry for the mix-up.

What? ISU = Iowa State University… we’re not cajuns up here, but we do fry everything you could imagine on a stick at our state fair. Did you think he meant LSU?

I have no doubt that their facilities are way nicer then even our brand new ones, so eat that up if you can! But you know… if you ever feel like sluming amongst all the bros and their sleeveless t-shirts…

yea to each their own lol. i was throwing out a recomendation on the rec center thing based on my experience(not just at isu), you’ll find out soon enough what the rec centers are like, it may look nice but like most commercial gyms, shiny new equipment does not neccessarily mean it’s good equipment or functional. but i hope you do find some people that are interested in powerlifting, it has taken me about 4 years to find a group of 5 people to lift with.

LM, i was really confused, was jakerz correct and you thought it was LSU?

Ah yes I did. My eyesight sucks and couldn’t see the space between the dot and the slash of the “i”. I no longer despise you and am glad to cheer on isu.

Angus, Wednesday is DL day for me. 395x10 was easy. How’s your training going?

I was at 198 on last Friday morning. but I think I was weighing 203 or so last Sunday on my pr two board. I keep my weight just over the limit so i can lift ,at 198 if I chose.

So just comments for me unless i cut a few pounds and hit a big one.

I try to sit around 195/198 so I can compete in the 181’s haha.
