Under 200 lbs Progress/Update Thread

Good luck LM and Chaz!

Good luck guys.

Second ever meet tomorrow. First time doing full powerlifting. Hoping to get around an 1100 total.
Will be posting videos provided I can get them uploaded to youtube.

Meet went well. Got 1st in my power sports division and 1st in squat (was only person doing high school squat, so it was basically a free trophy). Also, my team got 1st in power sports.

Lifts were as follows:
Bench:
100kg good
112.5kg good
122.5kg FAIL, didn’t wait for press command
248lb
2nd attempt

3rd attempt

Squat:
145kg good
162.5kg good
177.5kg good
391 lb, 6lb Pr

3rd attempt

Deadlift:
175kg good
200kg good
210kg good
463 lb, 43lb pr

2nd attempt (third was apparently not filmed)

Total:
500kg
1102 lb

For the power sports, we also do curl.
My third attempt was 52.5 kg if I remember correctly.

you had about 15 pounds left in the tank on that squat!

Nice job black_angus.

I got 6ft of 3/8 chain and 2 spring clips the other day to act as my dip/pullup belt and finally got the opportunity to use it today. My final set was 5 reps with 35#.

And before anyone says “Why didn’t you just get a dipping belt from so and so?” I get a HUGE discount at work and it cost me about 8 bucks total.

Thanks, but I’d wager I had even more. It felt really easy.

My goals for my next meet (whenever that may be) are 450 squat, 500 DL, and 300 bench.

black angus, have you ever considered moving your feet in a few inches on your deadlift. It seems as though you are not quite conventional, not quite sumo. If you move your feet in you can move your hands in and decrease the length you have to pull the bar or go sumo and put your hands inside your legs. Just a thought.

Well done blackangus

I usually do go a bit narrower, it was just on that lift I had my feet a bit wider for some reason. I usually keep my hands at the same spot, because that is what I have been used to. It’s taken me a while to find exactly where I’m comfortable, and it’s been working for me. If I start to stall, that is one thing I will look into, thanks.

Thanks for the congratulations from all of you.

hey black angus, didn’t know that you were gonna do a nasa meet so close to where i train. where do you lift at if i may ask?

also thought i’d throw my results in. UPA nationals in illinois, weighed in at 196.4 and totaled 1664 raw and hit my 705 squat.

Just kidding, I would give my left testicle to achieve that total and squat.

Is there a place that you have given your training history? I would love to see what you did that got you to where you are now.

I live in west-central Iowa, about two hours from Des Moines. I will be living in Iowa City (University of Iowa) next fall.

Yes please.

Hit a personal record raw squat tonight. This is the heaviest I have ever gone with a raw squat regardless of bodyweight. I am looking to beat the USAPL raw american record of 520lbs. I plan on lifting at the USAPL Summer Power Fest on July 16th with nothing but a singlet and a belt. I weighed 189lbs today and there is 510lbs on the bar. After watching the video I need to get more comfortable with my setup with such a heavy weight, go a tad deeper, and work the second half of my squat. I am going to throw in some bands. I have around 12.5 weeks until the compeitition. Critiques welcome.

Tell your friend to get a haircut.
Elbows down and forward. Thrust more with your hips once you clear the hole/get about half way up. Other than that looked real clean.

If I can say one thing, it would be to take less steps for your walkout. The best squatters I’ve seen will take very few steps, and it’s something I am working on as well.

Stalled out with a 405 deadlift today with about 3 inches to go. Still questing for 3x bodyweight. So damn close
