Is it wise to train for an ultra while weight training? Im consuming a ton of food but worry im wasting calories running when i want it to go to building. Ultramarathon in October. Cycle end mid may

Why are you training for an ultramarathon if you don’t want to look like ultramarathon runners?
Im not taking it to get there. Im taking it to continue building but i see the ultra in sight also. Being stick thin isnt a requirement to marathoning. But being 6’4" doesnt mean i jave to be 300 plus either. I like being built but i also like running.
Im thinking if i did a ten mile run until end of cycle? Wuddya think? Id still have 5 months to train and maintain.
I only have to run for 4 days. After the 240 miles i can get back on cycle. Stupid thought?
I plan on slowly working cardio over building closer to end of cycle
Pushing gear to add size, so you can lose the size to run an ultramarathon, to get back on gear and regain the size you lost?

@Hairytoad running is one thing but training for an ultra is a different ballgame. Running 20-30mins a few days a week would be great for heart health while being able to still gain muscle as long as your calories were above maintenance. But to use gear to “gain” muscle while training for an ultra is what most would deem impossible, or not worth the risks associated with using gear. Think of the old adage, “the man who chases two rabbits gets neither.”
Maybe OP is as committed as David Goggins and I’m just an asshole.

I’ve done both. Haven’t been able to do one while being able to also do the other though.
Well, maybe this should be in training logs. Im not goggins but trained with “his” people in the military. I have some screws loose, never ran a marathon, 134 days into the longest run at sobriety in my life and im going to run the longest running event in October goggins got ademia from.
Ive been taking week by week photos. Ill continue throughout this process, continue and finish my cycle, see what i look like before the race and after the fourth day.
If it isnt crazy af, im not wasting my time.

Sounds like this meant to be the other way around? If running is the priority then the extra would be the weights. Which probably aren’t needed for that specifically, but there’s nothing wrong with lifting a few days a week
Welp. Yall were right. Ultra run my arse. I weigh 250 now after off cycle 4 weeks. Not sure ill lose a lot more. Running is a pita. I used to never get shin splints, now i do. Getting big is now my full time gig. Lmao
