Ultra Runner Training

Hey, recently ive been getting pains in my knee from slogging through the trails day after day, and i think its because ive got a bit of strength deficit in my legs as compared to the endurance ive built up. I’m looking for a solid 3-4 day a week program to help rebuild the strength in my legs as well as the upper body.

I carry heavy packs with me sometimes so i can avoid stopping at aid stations so strong back and shoulers are a key. I don’t wanna bulk up in any way though cause it might throw off my stride and add extra weight to carry over 100+ miles

Im not new to the iron game, i used to be a competitive olympic lifter, but my old training techniques i think are a bit outdated, so im looking for a nice new fresh perspective.

Which knee?
What have you done for the pn?
New shoes, Ice, Motrin?
For my persistent knee pn (training for a 50k) I found leg curls and glute ham raises took it out 100%.

ive started doing alot it band stretching, massages, same for the quad and the calf. hurts like hell, but its helping. ive been avoiding the gym for the past 2 months or so to really focus on my long runs, and i think thats been abig reason why the pain has started. Today in the gym i did some BB squats on a swiss ball, some one leg DB deadlifts, some mountain climbers, and some balance work on a swiss ball, the knee was fine througout the entire workout. it seems to only be affected by my runs

im still very open to some training plan ideas, im great at working out, always really motivated, but im terrible at program design

I’m going to be very unhelpful here but long distance running is bad for you dude!

You can do a lot of things to try and make it less stressful but i think you’re fighting a losing battle, there’s always going to be a tremendous amount of impact to your lower body.

with that in mind then, how about some helpful ideas/training programs to make it as easy on me as possible
