UK Powerlifting

Quick question for the UK folk…

Any advise on UK Powerlifting federations / where to find out about up-coming comps etc?

Looking on google there is a lot of hits and I was just looking for some insight from any UK lifters on here?

UK is too cool for powerlifting. Send Terry Hollands a friend request on facebook and become a strongman.

Bdfpa is ok, gbpf is considered slightly more legit if you care about your competition. I’d go with whichever was more local/convenient really. Also check out sugden, most of the top uk strength guys are on there - some more frquently than others though! It’s good to get a view of wsm and stuff from a competitor’s perspective.

Thanks for the info will have take a look

go for the gbpf for better competition and they hold far more competitions over the year than the bdfpa although the ipf equipment rules with the gbpf is a bit shite.

BPU (British Powerlifting Union) is a great bet. We have a great mix of raw, single and multiply lifters.

We’re the UK WPC Affiliate (I’m on the committee) - we hold about 6 comps a year, plus opportunities to go to the European and World Championships.

We’ve still got two qualifiers this year for the British - which is combined with the WPC International Grand Prix - this attracts lifters from all over Europe. Thats on 30th and 31st August.

Qualifiers to go
June 1st - Birmingham (including disability division)
July 6th - Barnstaple (Devon)
