Ugh I Bench as Much as I Squat

No crap. Who elses opinion would it be?

I’m going to leave the rest this alone; but the above is BULLSHIT. Eating enough to grow properly is the most difficult piece of the pie.

Hey OP. Can you also take a video of your deadlift form (from the side)? Also a video of you touching your toes?

It’s times like these that I rely on the infinite wisdom of TC:

"I’ve lately picked up an incredibly useful skill. Whenever I feel dissed by someone, whenever I’m blown away by someone’s rudeness, ignorance, or stupidity, I take a moment to question his or her motives.

I ask myself, “Is this action personal, or is it part of their flawed character?” Are they really “out to get me,” or are they just poor wandering fucked up pilgrims like the rest of humanity?"

I don’t know what the fuck is up with my legs/back but I can currently bench almost as much as I can squat. Some problems I have when squatting:

A) it KILLS my spine. Like I can actually feel shit getting compressed/torqued in my spine. It also feels like it’s about to snap on most reps (even with just 135 lbs.)
You should have your upper back super tight and your elbows under the bar, this will help balance the weight over your lower back.
B) My knees always jerk back and forth when I’m coming up out of the hole.
Toe out just a little bit and get your glutes stronger. You should feel like you’re spreading the floor as your coming up. Also, make sure you’re flashing your grown on the way down.
C) My knees are usually slanted to one side or the other when coming up out of the hole. (Instead of being a straight vertical line from my ankle to my knee, both my knees are slanted to the side, like the leaning tower of Pisa).
Pretty much the same as for point B. You can sit on a low box and stretch your adductors by pushing your knees out over your ankles. You can add bands around your knees too.
D) Coming out of the hole my body is never a straight vertical line. It’s like my shins are leaning one way, my upper legs another, my torso another.
I don’t understand what you mean here.
E) I feel like I’m leaning forward way too much during reps, but can’t seem to do anything about it.
Push your head straight back, as in make your chin go straight back a couple inches. You head/traps should be the first thing coming out of the hole.
F) When I’m squatting I don’t feel like my legs are doing any work. My quads MAYBE; but overall my ass and hamstrings don’t even feel like they’re contracting or working. (I know obviously they must be if I’ve ever completed a rep).
You need shit tons of assistance work: GHR’s, back raises, planks, heavy situps, front squats.
G) After a set of squats my spine, and the muscles in my middle back right near my spine are very uncomfortable, it feels like they’re bulging or compressed or something.
You need to get your torso stronger. I would have someone teach you how to box squat with a medium/wide stance. I would also use a safety bar if you have access to one. You need to learn how to use all of your torso muscles by pushing out your front and side abs and back muscles, like you have a belt around your gut and you’re trying to break it.
OK, what the fuck do I do? I haven’t found any articles on T-Nation that really address any of these problems.
I have been in the same boat. I could pull well over four when I was still being stapled by 275 on the squat. I truly think a lot of it has to do with technique and with making your torso strong. I just don’t think the dead requires the same kind of torso bracing that the squat does, which seems counter intuitive, but there it is.

Oh, and pulling 430 is no indication that your back is strong. You tend to pull with more flexion than you would allow in a squat, and all the hip tension in the hole tends to force you to round over.

Do you ever pull deads for reps? If you don’t, consider adding in some reps, in the 3-6 range.

Awww here come the fat comments…my abs are better than yours and I’m at least 80 lbs heavier. Not my fault you didn’t even go parallel on your squat, or the fact that you got credit for something you didn’t even do aka the calculator.

The moral of this story is, when you are new, don’t go throwing around numbers like you are going to impress someone. We don’t care. Having a picture of, what looks like, a 15 year old kid in your avatar, and then acting like a bad ass doesn’t fly here.

so wipe the tears away and move on.

K buddy. Sorry I’m not shaped like an upright turtle, but thats not my goal, I play sports which include moving around. Don’t know many 200lbs 15 years olds. The 465 was actual weight and I went parallel.

I could care less about trying to impress anyone on this sight. Fuck you all, I put up numbers I’ve done and will tell you the form I used. Nobody gives a shit about you or your size, it’s not hard to eat 7000 calories a day and gain weight, not my goal so good for you. Notice nobody else is as worried about other peoples numbers? Maybe cause they aren’t as insecure as some 15 year old chick like you obviously are, making the most important part of your day attacking someones accomplishment cause it makes you feel special and cool. I was telling him the numbers for the fact that he can squat a lot and get over the back/leg problems if he wants, not to impress him or anyone. I don’t think 465 is that great when people are doing well over 1000lbs.

So go put a new tampon in and drink another mass gainer shake, maybe if you gain another 20 pounds your parents will finally love you and a girl will talk to you.
at 240 lbs I ran the 100 for my track team. My 40 was in the mid 4.5’s, I understand that you like to justify your like of size by playing the “functional” argument, but it just isn’t so. I could still outrun your scrawny ass.

“Nobody gives a shit about your size, it’s not hard to eat 7000 calories a day and gain weight.” -LOL right…getting like ronnie coleman is easy, you are living proof of that. I anxiously await the day when you start a thread asking for help on getting bigger.

Your reasoning is flawed here pal, we were giving the OP solid adivce about how to fix his problems. All you said was basically “Look at me I squatted 485 and the doc wanted me to get rods in my back (And asshole) so stop being a pussy and just squat”. You know you meant it like that and now that you are being called out you are trying to back out, not gonna work sweetheart.

Notice that the big boys on this site don’t go throwing around numbers, we don’t feel the need to. We are confident enough that we don’t have to have the spotlight on us, our job is to help others get where they want to be. I have no problem calling people out, and will do so whenever I see fit.

So, you are on a bodybuilding website, and your goal isn’t to get bigger? Maybe you should re-evaluate the reasons that you are here.

I don’t even have to respond to the comment about girls lol, I’m a bouncer, you don’t get more play than me, it’s that simple. And I’ll put a tampon in if you take the metal rod out of your ass that you had the doctor put there…but you won’t b/c you love the feeling of having something rub against your prostate.

So please, go calculate some more 1 RM for us and throw them around like you are a badass, everyone knows actually LIFTING the weight you claimed is only for uneducated teenagers.

My goal is to get to around 215 lean, not all bodybuilders go for all out size pal.I’m sure I would have a great advantage in motorcycle racing when I’m 280 right??

I’m sure you are loaded with chicks, thats why you spend your days trying to belittle people online. How much do you bench? I’m sure you bounce it at the bottum if it’s a lot of weight. Sounds dumb doesn’t it and I really have no clue about your lifting or strength, but same thing you did.

You have no justification in how I said it and what I meant by it, so don’t even try and guess what I was saying. If you’re so confident, why do you go around calling people out on not doing weight. First it went from I can’t squat that much, to oh maybe you did, but who cares. Just shut the fuck up and get over yourself. My intentions where “You can still squat hard, don’t give up cause of some excuse about your build/problems/legs”. Simple as that. But of course, you, the one who says is confident in himself and doesn’t throw out numbers, has to go around calling people out on numbers. Why does that make you insecure??

Maybe your mom didn’t hug you enough? Maybe you have a small dick? Maybe you’re gay and don’t want to admit it to yourself, or all three. Your justlike every other big guy that thinks he’s an online guru.

Quoted for truth! I have trained a lot of clients with postural distortions, from the sounds of it I see rehab training in the OP’s future.

Yeah this thread is out of control. I inserted my tip before I realized how flaming the thread was… Never a good idea insert your best tip into a flaming thread.

sorry off original topic here but since this thread kinda went to hell anyway, i agree with waylander on the big people not posting numbers, nobody cares unless it’s directly relevant, calculations don’t count and if the lift isn’t done in a meet with a credible fed i take it with a grain of salt anymore. 465 isn’t that great and people doing 1000 pounds are typically in multiply gear.

back to original post, i agree with conor and if you decide to do reps of deads, i would suggest doing reps of rackpulls also, it will really help with back strength and by taking a big breath and pushing out your stomach in between pulls i think that will also help with core strength.

I couldn’t read through the whole thread. It was too painful. About as painful as squatting 600 raw with a rounded back, I’d imagine.

I’m almost 100 percent certain that the OP doesn’t squat properly.
Knees out in front etc is most likely what he’s doing, and then rounding his back in the lower part of ROM as a result of that, but it’s just a guess of course.

I personally prefer Front squats for quads, but that doesn’t mean that he should avoid the squat from now on… He can’t know whether the exercise is effective for him or not if he’s never done it right before.

Also, what’s the point in doing all kinds of mobility work if the issue is simply caused by stance/technique…

His symptoms sound exactly like what one’d expect from fucked up stance/form, not mobility or flexibility issues.

I would think posting a video would help…
