Hmmm…this talk of Manhoef makes me wonder how Yoshihiro Akiyama would match up against Silva. That is if Akiyama’s mind is right and he can play “fair.” People hate that dude…but he’s a good fighter.

Yeah he’s great. He was very unlucky against Misaki. Excellent standup considering he’s from a Judo background.
Yeah, from watching most of his fights…its easy to forget that. I think he matches with Silva physically…and he has a good skill set to make for a good fight IMO. He fucked up with the whole Sakarabu greasing incident because he’s a very good fighter.

As if he didn’t have enough problems being Korean-Japanese. From what my mother-in-law(Japanese)tells me…Korean-Japanese have a hard time in Japan. Ohh…lol…his new nickname…“Satan”…whats up with that?

Though I doubt Wanderlei would beat A. Silva there seems to be the possibility of Wanderlei dropping down to middleweight.

I would still like to see that fight. Or Henderson fight Wanderlei again.

That would be nice since 205 is already stacked to the gills while 185 could use better fighters.

wanderlei vs Anderson would be interesting.

ballistic vs technical basically

Wandy is fighting Keith Jardine now. Looks like he is staying at 205 for now.

I think Melvin Manhouef destroys Silva standing. Silva would have to get Melvin on the ground.

Melvin would not ‘destroy’ Anderson.

I love watching Melvin fight, but he struggled to get past Cyborg Santos not too long ago, and Silva is a lot longer and a lot better technically than Cyborg. I think Silva’s length and his ridiculously accurate jab would give the 5’8" Manhoef all kinds of problems.

I see that fight being a back and forth war on the feet, with Silva pulling out the win after a scramble/knockdown brings the fight to the ground. I could also see Silva knocking Manhoef out if Melvin gasses out like he did versus Cyborg.
I don’t really think Manhoef can be defined by that Cyborg fight only. Melvin has a problem facing guys who don’t have his striking prowess(which is basically every mma fight), he goes all out to knowck the guy out. Throws his technique out the window and gets tired.

I think a fight with Silva would be perfect for him to put it together. He has excellent technique and throws in combination. Being that Silva is a southpaw Melvin would have I believe an easier time landing his low kick combinations especially when leading with right straight leads.

I would love to see the contrast of styles between Silva and him, Muay Thai and Dutch kick. Straight up striking I don’t really see why you would think Melvin could not walk through Silva. If Bonjasky can’t keep Melvin off of him, Silva isn’t minus three inches in height and 45 pounds in weight.

I agree in a scramble on the ground, or pulling guard Silva would pull out the win. I am curious what Silva’s strategy would be in a fight with Melvin. Would he choose to stand up with Melvin exclusively like Franklin did against Silva. The first three minutes would be electric.

I just put money down on Dan Henderson.

A very interesting article on Silva’s strength and weaknesses can be found over at the Total MMA site.

Who i think should drop to 185 (because he’s kinda light for 205 anyway), and would give Silva a run for his money.

SHOGUN.

if shogun loses against chuck, mark my words he’ll probably drop to 185 and take the belt from silva.
NOW You’re talking! That would be an exciting match to see! Especially if Shogun is healthy and “UFC Jitters”-free.

I’m not even gonna bother predicting anything, but I’m definitely rooting for Silva.

great article mr.90210

Anyone going? My son and I are going.

New fan, don’t know much about anything MMA. Seems like I chose a great event for my first.

I always get a kick out it when someone says that Anderson Silva is the pound for pound greatest fighter in the world. No really, that’s funny stuff. And why do they say this? Because he beat Rich Franklin? And who did Rich Franklin beat, to give him such a reputation?

And wasn’t it Anderson Silva who was almost beaten by Fireman Travis Luiter (sp)? He was most certainly mounted.

No really, some of you have to stop swallowing Dana (I’m a sleeze) White’s hype regarding Silva. Sure he’s a good fighter…a very good fighter. And I expect that he’ll put up a good fight against Hendo, (and lose). But to call him the pound for pound best is a crock of shit. And an insult to the many others who should be considered pound for pound the best.

Who are the “many others” who should be considered pound for pound better than Silva?

^^

Fedor
Dan Henderson (we’ll find out soon)
Kid Yamamoto
BJ Penn

Thats about it… and those are HIGHLY debatable.

either way “almost” only counts in grenades and horseshoes.

Currently I might personally add:

GSP
Uriah Faber

Also, I’d say that Fedor is arguably THE BEST MMA fighter in the world, forget weight classes.

Hilarious post there. I think you just hate black people.

Fedor hasn’t fought anyone worth a shit for 2 years. Hendo is a good call, which is why this fight is so great. Kid Yamamoto…who has he beat? Certainly not the number one guy in his weight class, who Anderson Silva shit stomped twice. BJ Penn? Talent wise, maybe. But he lost two of his last 4 fights and hasn’t beat a top 10 guy in the LW division yet.

And I thought it was just me. Mick, you out do yourself every day in making an ass of yourself.

Man,Hendo/Silva is a fight that is very hard to call. I’m just hoping for a good fight…and a Silva win…we shall see. I’m actually a little excited to see Kongo vs. Herring…but I’m biased towards the HW’s for obvious reasons. Its actually a fight that is important for the HW division…as sad as it is. I’m just hoping for a good overall card.

silva via ko. he’ll hurt dan in the first but wont win til the second. most interesting fight imo is the tanner fight. hope he does well after his LONG layoff
