You think monson is going to win easy? I think he’ll win, but it won’t be easy.

Is that Lidell with hair? Did he join the hair club for men, or is it an old pic?
I think (hope?) that’s Liddell’s face photoshopped on Arlovski’s body/head.
Nick Diaz is my favourite fighter, and Hughes/GSP is going to be an incredible fight, but other than that I’m losing interest in the UFC lately. But you never know, the card might turn out to be great.
Sheriff I assume you meant Monson and not “Gorilla” Monsoon (RIP), right? j/k
Come to think of it, it would be a better nickname than ‘The Snowman’ and its still weather-related.
Other than Hughes-GSP, the fight I’m looking forward to most is Alessio Sakara vs Gouveia, b/c Sakara in his 2 fights showed great striking, and he’s Italian, which is another plus.
My predictions for UFC are Hughes over GSP, though it wouldn’t surprise me if GSP won. I think a lot of people look at GSP and say “He’s due” but that strategy doesn’t work in gambling and its not a good idea to use it when faced with a dominant champion.
I would leave Penn out of the discussion, because he dominated both. (Penn won the battle but lost the war with GSP, IMO.)
I like Diaz, he’s fun and cocky, but he has lost a lot lately, 4-4 over his last 8. I don’t know his opponent, so no prediction.
Vera vs Mir? Yawn. I’d love it if a new hvwt emerges as a very good fighter though.
Irvin has some great KOs, should be fun.
Monson has beaten nobodies and has lost vs all quality opponents: Chuck, Ricco and Forrest. So, I have to go with Sylvia.
Brad Imes is on PPV? Please let it not be televised, unless its a sweet KO or TKO.

Agreed completely. When you see the overall lack of talent in the UFC compared to that of PRIDE, its seems hard to prevent the inevitable eclipsing of the UFC by PRIDE. That being said, only great matches from the UFC like GSP vs. Hughes interest me enough to merit my money these days.

Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see Hughe’s/GSP as such a great fight.
Hughes already beat him soundly. Hughes then beat Penn soundly. And GSP only beat Penn by a close decision.
I say Hughes mangles GSP. Don’t know what round, but it’s not going all five.-

Did you watch the same fight I did? Hughes did not beat Penn soundly. He was at the verge of a loss up until the 3rd round. The only reason Penn lost was because of the injuries he sustained to his lungs/ribs during hte 2nd round.
First I’ve heard about the ‘injuries’. I think he just gassed, which is his mo.
Goldberg also said that he didn’t do any cardio leading into the fight.
Too bad really that Penn isn’t as hungry as other fighters who do their cardio.
I know his family is wealthy which prob makes it hard to want to get up and do sprints every morning at 5 am.

Is it possible to have a UFC thread not go into a BJ Penn debate? Probably not actually.
But using Hughes example vs Penn is not a very good marker for how GSP will perform against Hughes…I think GSP is hungry and ready right now, Hughes is coming off the huge highes of beating Gracie and then Penn, I think, though he will probably train hard as usual, he will not be as hungry as GSP is for this one. That said, it is still a toss up any time Penn, Hughes, and GSP step into the ring to face each other.

Here’s a copy of BJ Penn’s medical report to prove his injuries.

Someone like BJ Penn has enough honor and doesn’t need to lie about his injuries. Also, you have to take into consideration that he took this fight on short notice so he didn’t have as much training time as he would have liked to. Him being from a wealthy background has nothing to do with his motivation. He’s a world champion BJJ practitioner and a former UFC champ…he’s very well motivated.
Cheers.
I would like to see Diego get a shot soon…with his latest victory over Karo, I think he’s at least earned consideration…still can’t stand him though.

LOL, you mean that Hughes pounded him so bad during the second round that it helped him (Hughes) win the fight in the third round?
Why don’t you think about that one a while!

It makes Penn a lazy fighter. And lazy fighters rarely make good champions.
Question for you. Is Penn versed in anything accept BJJ? He seems like a pretty good striker yet I don’t recall him being trained as such.
Dont ask me why but that has just made me laugh sooooo much

He has trained extensively in Muy Thai for the past 6 or 7 years

I believe Penn claimed to have hurt his ribs during his final takedown of Hughes in round 2. THis would explain why he looked like such a different fighter at the start of round 3.
If you rewatch the fight Hughes was definitely not “pounding” anyone in the 2nd round.
Hughes capitalized on his hurt opponent in round 3, and beat the shit out of him like a true champion:)

I posted BJ Penn’s medical documents, not sure why you chose to ignore those.

I think you mean during Huges final takedown of Penn. Think back, Penn NEVER took Hughes down. So if Hughes hurt Penns ribs while taking him down, that’s a good thing for the winning fighter.
No one said that he pounded him in the the second round. But, he won the second round. That’s what winning fighters do, they win rounds.

That would be 40 unanswered punches and elbows while Hughes had both of his arms tied up.
Yea, you might say Hughes beat him down. I thought McCarthy should have stopped it sooner actually. Penn had no hope of escaping and his face was being used as a punching bag.
