IT IS ON!!!
That is all…
I think the guys over at CrossFit just creamed themselves.
Either way, I am excited to see any match-up between those three guys.
Also, I’m starting to actually look forward to see Diego rumble with one of the three top dogs.
christ, I hope BJ is in shape for a five rounder.
Go BJ!
Hughes by TKO. I have a feeling BJ will go all out it the first two rounds and gas too quickly. Matt will take advantage and GnP in the 3rd round.
While it sucks that GSP is out with a groin injury, you really cant complain. It’s like getting ready to have sex with Jessica Biel, but she pulls out at the last minute, so you bang Jessica Alba instead.
I’ve been having a shit day, but when I heard this it made me feel a lot better.
Ideally, BJ will beat Matt and then we can get a 5 round fight of BJ vs. GSP.
Then hopefully we can get GSP vs. Hughes after that.

best analogy ever
Should be interesting. Hughes is the favorite going in, but I’m sure BJ’s confident he can win since he submitted Hughes the first time. Only question is if BJ is in good enough shape to hang with Hughes for 5 rounds, if it goes the distance.
My feeling is that Hughes should win, but I could easily see Penn catching Hughes in another submission.
As long as GSP isn’t punished by the UFC for pulling out of the fight (like Parisyan was) and gets a title shot against the winner when he’s healthy, then it’s all good.

Any analogy that contains a refrence to banging Jessica Beil will be the best analogy ever.

I’m pretty sure GSP will have to fight the loser for a title shot.
And this is an interesting fight. I don’t think Matt can GNP BJ until the later rounds, and that’s if BJ gases which he might with only 4 weeks of training. Obviously Matt will get thrashed standing. Should be a great fight though. ![]()
hmmmm I don’t really think that anyone can GNP on BJ unless they hurt him first, and since his standup is that good I don’t know if Hughes can do it. I suppose if conditioning is a factor(yeah, I know it probably will be) then Penn could eat a couple-few elbows, but other than that he’d be okay…I just don’t think he’d outright give up no matter how tired he got, which is what it would take for Hughes to score a stoppage.

oh yeah…
slimjim,
We finally get to see who is going to win the rematch hey buddy?
Keep in mind that this time around Hughes will not be underestimating Penn. He is not some lightweight who decided to move up to Welterweight and take on the champion this time around.
I have the utmost respect for Penn when he is “on.” He can strike with the best of them and is great on the ground. A true credit to the game…when he’s on that is.
If the Penn who lost to GSP shows up it will be an easy night for Hughes. If Penn shows up in shape and ready to go then I expect a good fight.
As soon as I take a look at how each of them are training and who they are training with specifically, I might take a shot at a more exact prediction.
At this very moment I don’t see anyone beating Hughes.
And…I bet you disagree… ![]()
Rough couple weeks for the UFC, eh?
First Liddell/Silva is called off (albeit quietly) and next GSP is injured…As long as Chuck and Babalu are both ready to go in a couple days, at least one of the three matches-of-the-year is still on.
Sounds like last chance for BJ. I hope he takes it seriously.
Hughes keeps improving as a fighter. He’s definitely not the same fighter as when he first fought BJ. I think Hughes will definitely have the advantage. For those who think BJ can submit him, remember what Hughes did to Gracie. His sheer power, experience, and determination will clinch the win. Hughes victory round 3.

Any credibility of your post was lost when you cited the Gracie match as an example of how far Hughes has progressed.
Zeb,
Yeah, we finally get to find out who will come out on top…not to make any excuses for BJ, but I would’ve rather he had the time to prepare for this fight that Hughes and St. Pierre had. For five rounds he really needs to be on, I really don’t know how this one will go, but I’m willing to bet Hughes doesn’t try to stand with Penn.
Lidell/Babalu Saturday, Pride Bushido 12 is free on FSN Sunday, Pride OWGP with Silva/Cro-Cop Nog/Barnett Aleks/Sergei, then Hughes/Penn…my weekends are looking good for the coming month.
Hughes owns his weight class and that includes handling Penn or GSP. I hate to admit it.
I want GSP to take the belt but it isn’t enough to want it for him. Hughes is too much.
I don’t see a real chink in his armor. He never fights long standing so that isn’t even a point to ponder. He’s going to rule Penn.
