UFC 65: Bad Intentions

Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre
Tim Sylvia vs. Jeff Monson
Nick Diaz vs. Graison Tibau
Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir
Joe Stevenson vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima
Brad Imes vs. TBA

This might be a little premature (that’s what the chicks say about me too), but I’m already excited about the next UFC.

Thoughts?

Hughes v GSP is a great fight. I’ll make my pick closer to the fight date. Injury recovery rumors will play a big part in my decision.

Sylvia v Monson is a classic style battle. I don’t think Monson can take Sylvia down, and I think the ridiculous reach advantage of Sylvia will be too much to overcome. Sylvia by TKO in late 1st/2nd is most likely, but a Monson sub is a definite possibility.

Vera will TKO Mir, whose time as a challenger I feel is over.

Mishima over Stevenson, not expecting an interesting fight.

I’ll take TBA over Imes.

has Nick Diaz ever had an easy fight? If you were to do a win percentage check of his opponents, he has got to have one of the highest.

I’m excited to see GSP and Hughes go at it again…I don’t see Hughes losing this one, but who knows.

I also don’t think Monson will be able to take Sylvia down and that reach advantage will be his undoing.

Mir should get destroyed, but maybe we’ll be able to see the old Mir reemerge from the depths.

Why is Brad Imes fighting on a PPV? Put that scrub on free TV dammit, I don’t want to see him fight unless its as a walk thru for one of the top guys…what happened to earning this shit?

Is it cold in here, or is it just me?
Excellent comment!

Wow, I am shocked that Brad Imes is still fighting…why?

I mean sure if you get over the height, what is there? Rashad handed him his ass so bad, a guy who is 9" shorter schooled him without any resistance.

Probably because the UFC has him on the cheap, like around 2 grand a fight.

interesting to see Mishima coming over to UFC from Bushido. Hopefully he’s woked on his cage skills and doesn’t get worked against the fence. Over all I’m going with Mishima.

I’ll take GSP on this one. Go Biotest!

I really hope Monson wins, but I think Tim is going to pull it off. I really can’t fucking stand Syliva. He talks WAY too much shit for being the champion of the weakest division in major league MMA.

Diaz will trounce Tibau.

Brandon Vera is the last best hope of the UFC HW division, and for the UFC’s sake I hope he wins.

And I’ll definetely take TBA over Imes.

OK here’s the updated card…

-Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre
-Tim Sylvia vs. Jeff Monson
-Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir
-Mark Hominick vs. Joe Stevenson
-Nick Diaz vs. Josh Koscheck
-Michael Bisping vs. TBA

No Brad Imes, LOL.

Dana must’ve read our thread. Bisping is about a thousand times better substitution.

I really want St.Pierre to take this one, and I think he can do it.

Hopefully if he wins the crowd won’t boo him in a show of their “American pride”. Its always so aggravating when a guy fights a great fight and wins only to have the crowd boo him for some stupid reason such as nationality.

Who do you think Bisping will fight?

Although that TUF he was in was lame - he looked like the best to me from the start.
I’ve been waiting to see him against a better opponent anyway.

I’ll buy the card just to see Diaz-Koscheck. Nick Diaz is the man

I’m really excited for the Hughes-St. Pierre fight, although I don’t know who’s going to win, it’s really a toss-up. I will be rooting for GSP, though.

The Diaz-Koscheck fight should be real exciting. Like Slimjim said, Diaz never fights scrubs, and this is no exception, as Koscheck has improved greatly since TUF.

Bisping making a PPV debut is cool. He’s got tremendous potential and I see him being another Forrest Griffen type where he comes in an makes an immediate impact off the TUF show.

I’d like to see Monson win, only because I’m sick of seeing Sylvia wearing his belt around EVERYWHERE!

Why don’t you tell us all how GSP is going to beat Hughes. I’d really like to hear it.

Im not even gonna attempt to put a bet on hughes vs GSP, too tough to call

I wanna say monson, but that reach is massive, and i havent really seen too much of the snowman, but ill say Sylvia.

Vera, Stevenson, Koscheck and Bisping.

Theres my picks.

Decision, KO, TKO, Sub. He’s capable of ending that fight anywhere anyway. So is Hughes. Thats the thing, its a very even matchup.

You seem ready to give Hughes the W already. I think you’re mistaken.

The fact that Hughes tapped him out in the first round.

The fact that GSP could not put Penn away and Hughes did.

The fact that Hughes has put everyone away as champion with either a submission or ref stoppage with only two exceptions.

The fact that Huhges has beaten every single top contender, and many of them TWICE.

The fact that Hughes is FAR more experienced than GSP, 40 some fights to something like 15 for Pierre.

The fact that he looked sick standing in the audience and watching Hughes stop Penn (yea he wanted Penn again).

The fact that Matt Hughes seems to get better with almost every fight.

Yes, I dismiss GSP in this fight. He is going to lose badly.

Now tell me WHY you think GSP will win.

Because he’s a nice guy?

Come on tell me.

GSP was winning the first fight against Hughes when he pulled out the awesome armbar.

I think the rematch could go either way but based on their interaction in TUF4 I think Hughes has gotten in GSP’s head.

Hughes is such a cocky bastard. I love it.

I said I hoped he would win and I thought he could do it, not that I was certain he would. And, again, I think he is capable of getting a sub, tko, or decision on hughes because he has demonstrated an ability to take hughes down, good striking, and a solid bjj game(With the exception of his foul up at the end of the first round of course)

In their first fight GSP was doing very well against Hughes when he underestimated his BJJ, it happens. Hughes underestimated Penn the first time they fought and got choked out pretty damn quickly.

Hughes may have finished off Penn the second time, but he looked like Hell to start off the fight. He was getting his ass handed to him. He also didn’t look so hot at the beginning of his 2nd fight with Trigg who GSP absolutely shit bombed. Now, he came back to win both fights and I enjoyed seeing it both times.

So I stand by my opinion that this is a very even fight and one I can’t wait to see.
