Tyson vs. Paul: Call It! 🄊

That was sad to witness, though a little too predictable. Can’t beat fathertime, Mike…(still the baddest 58 year old out there, mind).

Tyson could have taken him at any time. That was more expo/promo than anything else.

Well, glad i didn’t waste time watching

I don’t think so

I didn’t watch the fight… I can’t support something like this

We can say ā€œbut it’s Mike Tysonā€. It is, but Mike Tyson two years ago had a herniated disk and was walking around using a cane. Mike Tyson went into this fight with what looked like a bum knee… Mike Tyson is a monster, but he’s also 58 and Jake Paul is 27

Jake Paul has been boxing for four years (maybe 5). In boxing as a young person if you train VERY hard and don’t get injured you can get pretty good in four years. Some of the greats e.g. George Foreman I believe represented the US at the olympics with less than four years training experience.

Jake Paul has been padding his record, unfortunately record padding has become really common in boxing where a boxer will purposefully fight boxers who aren’t as good to rack up a ton of wins

The sport has always had issues with corruption but now moreso as pro boxing has become more about superficial record padding, money and geocentricism. Jake Paul has 11 fights now, each fight he fought guys who were either influencers or out of prime fighters

Like Ben Askren… champion mma fighter, olympic athlete… except he was an olympic wrestler with very subpar striking for UFC standards. Ben Askren had also undergone hip resurfacing (very similar to total hip replacement with lower chance of dislocation or fracture allowing for return to high(er) impact although a decent THR nowadays has allowed some to return to martial arts which is very interesting. I spoke online to a guy with bilateral THR’s who still goes hard at BJJ.)

But still hip resurfacing = probably not in your prime anymore unless you developed AVN and got unlucky AND had fantastic genes… Although I do wonder how Askren managed to pass a medical eval with a prosthetic joint. That’s the kind of person Jake Paul fights. Tyson being 57 is well past his prime, he is eight years away from becoming a senior citizen.

I don’t think Tyson was faking, as this went on his official record… though I also wouldn’t be suprised if someone had told me the fight was fixed.

Can’t agree with that. No mobility and no reflexes. His knee was in a brace for a reason and he just looked awkward. But yes, it was expo stuff.

Best Comment I saw on FB about the fight.

I was there at the fight last night. Sucked, we left in the 6th round to beat the rush. The Serrano-Taylor fight was the highlight of the card, everything else was basically garbage. Serrano should have gotten the decision especially after Taylor led either head so heavily. It was cool to see AT&T set up for a boxing match, the crowd was also… interesting, plenty of odd choices in attire, it looked like an Ed Hardy convention

I think Jake Paul held back … obviously if they were both at their peak he wouldn’t have lasted 30 seconds against Tyson. But it would be a bad look if Tyson was badly hurt.

The lead up fights were very good I thought - but I think Alvarado should have gotten the decision win over Taylor

Is that crap still a thing??

Jake Paul could have easily beat and hurt Mike Tyson if he wanted to. Mike Tyson is 58, and an old 58 - he’s lived a hard life, had been obese for many years and had abused drugs and alcohol. He was absolutely winded after 2 rounds, and could barely move. Even though Jake Paul is a clown, he’s still 28, big and strong, and would have no trouble handling a 58 year old, even if that 58 year old is named Iron Mike.

It would be like Michael Jordan playing a fringe NBA player one-on-one. As much as we’d love to see ā€œAir Jordanā€ show up a young cocky player, there’s no chance against an athlete in their prime.

That said, this whole event was pretty ridiculous. It shows why movies like Rocky Balboa (the one where an old ex-boxer puts up a good fight against a underwhelming current boxing champ) are just that: movies.

It was inspired by a true story, Wepner vs Ali.

Too soon

Not a chance. Paul was flat footed and slow. If you were only watching punches, you missed the majority of the fight. Tyson being quick on his feet, controlling the ring and choosing his shots. Once Tyson had him figured out, at about 30 seconds of the first round, he just chilled out and sparred the rest of the way.

There were very few punches thrown by Paul that could have landed with any significance. At several points, he was so stretched out on a punch he looked like a child.

Lousy technique by Paul much of the fight. He’s ready for GGG or Canelo

I was watching some crappy YT video of the ā€œfightā€. First round, Tyson looked decent for a 58 yr old dude. Second round, they’re both just dicking around, but I hear the announcers talking about how bad it looks for Tyson…rigged for sure, I stopped wasting my time watching.

I read something about Paul getting 40 million and Tyson getting 20??? WTF. Ridiculous. Definitely a setup for Paul to try and mint more money for him and his crew.

Yeah. There were a few times you could see the fear. Maybe 5th or 6th round- Tyson in the center, Paul with his back to a corner- Tyson just backs him right into it where he would usually end him right there, but stops and let him out.

I got the ā€œWhoa! Here we go!ā€ feeling, then Tyson let him out. :slightly_frowning_face:.
