Trying to Keep Serious

If you want to compete, awesome you should diet the shit out of it and compete.

But otherwise you look gnarly. Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it.
Thanks a lot!

Amen!
Thanks.

See this is where I sort of saw eye-to-eye with Professor X, although I think he pushed it too far. There comes that point in which, yeah, you might look better if you cut back on calories, but performance will suffer, and I can’t see allowing performance to suffer much unless you’re in pre-contest mode. This does not mean I am in favor of his indiscriminate approach.

lol… Brick, you aint in the dead zone my man, you are at the tail end of it and about to break into the Lean Zone. Where most people need to lose 15 pounds to get to where you’re at, if you lost 15 pounds of fat you would be quite lean indeed… Maybe not quite stage lean, but approaching it.

Not exactly sure what you have been doing… But if this is how you look when you are sloppy and not that into it, I predict GOOD things for when you are banging on all 4 cylinders.
Thanks a lot man. It means a whole lot coming from someone like you. I have been trying very hard lately, with being consistent with food and in the gym and training balls-to-the-wall.

I just will have to accept the rotten fact that if and when I do compete, I will not have the luxury of moving to the top of a mountain and will have to compartmentalize and organize life appropriate for contest prep.

I think you look lightest, leanest, and best here. Definitely a good choice for the avatar.

Like the guys have said, you’re clearly on a roll and in a good place to go in any direction. Whatever you’ve been up to, diet and training-wise, has been working very well, so if you choose to nail down a specific goal, it should be a piece of cake (IIFYM joke. Lol.)
Thanks!

Looking, dare I say it, fullhouse ;).

Awesome physique, really powerful looking. Would love to see you do a show.
Thanks.

Yeah, this is my fullhouse mode, but I am someone who knows what’s fat.

You’re a tank, dude. Got some serious pipes. What kind of numbers are you throwin’ around, and what are your self imposed strength goals? Off topic, how do you like those NB Minimus? Been thinking of picking up a pair.
Thanks. My limbs are my strong points. I have never had a problem seeing growth in them.

I usually don’t like discussing numbers because I’m admittedly self conscious of them. I am certainly not the strongest guy around. MUch of my gains in size and strength are from muscle memory and there’s more to come from previous PR’s. So the numbers I list here are not the end of the road in the near future.

Recent PR’s:
Squat: 365 x 5 (real squats below parallel)
Deadlifts: 375 x 8
Bench press: 245 x 8
Chinups (REAL ONES, with a pause at the top and a controlled descent: BW x 14

As I said, there’s more muscle memory in the tank and I have done more in the past.

I might actually be at my strength goals already as I have not done a testing day for singles.

I want low 300s bench, mid 400s deadlift, low 400s squat. I think these are good goals for a natty with average genetics like myself and for someone who has lost some time for whatever reason, as I have.

Then I will switch to a totally hardcore BB routine. I don’t have an interest in competing in powerlifting but I like training like one for a few months.

Here’s my 5/3/1 routine

Day 1
Squats: 5/3/1 periodization scheme
Stiff legged deadlifts: 3-4 x 8-12
Walking dumbbell lunges: 3-4 x 8-12
Ab rollouts: Only can last 2 or 3 sets on these for max reps

Day 2
Bench press: 5/3/1 periodization
Incline flies: 3-4 x 8-12
Dumbbell rows: 3-4 x 8-12 (no straps): 3-4 x 8-12
Lying triceps extensions: 2-3 x 8-12
Bar curls: 2-3 x 8-12

Day 3
Deadlifts: 5/3/1 periodization
Hack squats or leg press: 3-4 x 8-12
Back extensions: 3-4 x 8-12
Leg raises: 3-4 x max reps

Day 4
Overhead press: 5/3/1 periodization
Dips: 3-4 x 8-12
Chinups: 3-4 x max reps
Dumbbell shrugs (no straps): 3 x 12-15, sometimes more
Tricep pressdown: 2-3 x 8-12
Dumbbell incline curl: 2-3 x 8-12

Cardio is done 1 or 2 days per week now, just a little bit. I used to do steady state running, but since cutting that out my strength returned much quicker. I do intervals on the row machine or hill sprints.

Warmup is:
At least 100 jumps with jump rope, glute and upper back activation drills, mobility drills. I take this stuff very seriously.

I haven’t posted in a very long time, as I thought that it’s best that I should just shut up and learn. Your posts are definitely some of my favorites, including the ones from the Bricknyce days lol. Just wanna say that you look great and I’ll definitely be following this thread. All the best!

Man I agree with everybody else, your looking great Brick.

I forgot to add the NB Minimus sneakers are great for deadlifting. I wear Cons or those for squats. I’m probably gonna get Adidas weightlifting sneakers or Otomix soon.

Looking sexy Brix, but you are weak. Adjust your strength goals to something more appropriate given your size such as 465/365/575.

Thanks. I have had higher numbers in the past, higher than the ones I am aiming for, and the muscle memory has more in store. I think I can hit those numbers you give in a year, but I think that will detract from physique/bodybuilding goals.

Thank you very much.

Half of the Bricknyce posts were inane ramblings.

I concur. I’d be happy if I walked around the daily with that level of leaness. You are maybe 4 weeks from being ripped and 8 weeks from being contest ready. Perfect level to enjoy life and keep making GAINZ.
Thanks.

Do you mean I look like I can use a three month contest prep?
Hah no. I just mean you are at a point where you can easily look “magazine shredded” in a short amount of time if you really wanted to. Like I said, I’d be happy if I looked like you the rest of my life. That’d be nearly perfect.

How tall are you again?
