I am about run my first Triathlon (short course) and I’m looking for some advice. I plan to lift two days a week (full body) and cardio the other training days.
I’m taking a break from short break from bodybuilding and this is one way to stay in shape. The event is July 12 here in Minneapolis, MN.
Supps include:
Beta-7
Spike-taking a break from HOT-ROX
Bars and Metabolic Drive
Flameout
Rez-V
The swim will scare you. The bike will own you. The run will kill you. Take care of those three things and you will do just fine.
I’m training for the Gulf Coast Half tri in May. I am doing a lot of olympic stuff and on the off days a lot of stretching and trunk work.
For the first tri, you only have to swim well enough to keep from drowning. In a sprint tri, the difference between the first person out of the water and the last is only a couple of minutes…better to spend your time training on the bike which is where you can make up the most time.
Key to success in tri training is specificity…if you want to do well, you have to run, bike and swim. Rule of thumb - aim for 3x race distance in weekly mileage.
For a sprint tri you have to train at a pretty good pace…lots of interval work and don’t worry too much about logging a lot of miles.
Practice ‘bricks’ (biking followed immediately by running)…try for a 30 minute bike ride followed by a 1 mile run (all at close to race pace).
Thanks, tesolius! This is the best advice I’ve gotte so far. The races isn’t until July. So far, I am running and biking. I haven’t started the swimming yet. The swim distance is a quarter mile. The run is 3miles and the biking is 15.
I’m biking and running running regular, and lifting maybe two days a week full body.
I think I have a good supplement regime. This is my first tri (short course) so I looking for some general advice on how to complete the race. I’m not looking to win my fist. I just want to finish
Lift three days a week. I don’t go to heavy. Just one legged box squats and calves for the bike and run. Weekends are left for my longer rides and runs.
