Traps and Chest for Tall Skinny Guy?

The posterior neck muscles grow nicely from the advice given here. (And you should be shrugging in the 400s before you say that shrugs don’t work for you). For the rest of the neck, I found that the sternocleidomastoids grow nicely from putting a barbell on your clavicles and filling your lungs to the max with air. (Only did front squats for a year. Strangled myself by putting on an old shirt on New Years Eve.)[/quote]

This sounds interesting; I had never thought about isolating this aspect of the front squat. When doing this, do you use the california style grip or the elbows-forward grip? Gonna give these a try.

You should do whatever works for you/allows you to ‘feel’ it best. I personally allow a slight bend in most of my shrugs, as completely straight arms sometimes feels a little restricted. It took a little practice though to get the feel right as you want to minimize the arm involvement(not rowing). When I think about it though, I do bend a little more in the top portion of Haney shrugs.
However, I have read about a lighter-weight shrug’ish’ movement with DB’s called “monkey scratchers” where you do a shrug but drag the weights up the sides of your body towards your armpits as high as you can(like a monkey scratching itself). Haven’t tried it as shrugs are working just fine but thought I’d throw it out there.
