Jim if someone has access to a trap bar and is not a competing powerlifter do you think they should use it over a straight bar? The goals are strength (obviously) but also health and longevity
Maybe Jim has another opinion. But have you any problems with the regular bar?
When not, why should you use another bar?
If you are more comfortable with the trap bar than use it otherwise stay with the normal bar.
While I’ve heard some arguments that a trap bar might be better for leg development, don’t forget that straight bar deadlifts will work the lower back more than the trap bar.
Truth be told I think it might be more worthwhile to keep straight bar deadlifts and do trap bar deadlifts instead of squats if you really wanted to use it.
An even better alternative would be to keep both deadlifts and squats as main lifts and have trap bar deadlifts as an accessory.
Thanks guys. So I rarely do accessory work. I do jokers and FSL multiple sets so theres really no need. I only do chins in between all pressing sets. Im asking about the trap bar because I’ve heard it wont beat the shit out of you like a straight bar will. I have no plans to compete for some time so I figured maybe making the switch to trap bar would be better for my joints and overall health
Yes - I’ve written many, many articles about this.
Thanks Jim. I remember reading those articles just wanted to double check
