Training Post Injury

Less than a week ago, I injured myself doing heavy dumbbell flys. After seeing two orthopedic surgeons, I have either: a). partially torn my right pec muscle or b). completely torn my right pec tendon. If it’s a partial tear, no surgery is required and I’m looking at a month of PT. If, however, the tendon has separated from the bone, surgery is a must and I’m looking at 4 months before I’m able to lift heavy again. My MRI on Saturday will illustrate the gravity of the injury. If surgery is required, I know I’ll be restricted to mostly lower body exercises.

My problem is thus: my gym is relatively “old school,” with few machines and lots of iron. I’ve made great gains the last five months and I hate to lose all that I’ve built. What can I do? Any insight would be sincerely appreciated.

Anyone?

Do anything you can with good form that doesnt hurt. Very lightly.

Can you squat? Maybe front squat?

You can probably kiss your upper body goodbye for a few months, but you’ll get it back.

From what I’ve been told, my right arm will be in a sling for about three weeks; I probably won’t be able to squat at all. :frowning:

1 Legged squats may be an option. You can still work your good side as well. There is said to be a neurological crossover from left to right so it can help in faster recovery and maintaining some strength.
