can you tell me how you set yours up, i had a little trouble looping mine for benching without doubling them and this took off a ton of weight for bench but it works well for squat.

if you watch my reverse band video you can see how i set them up. i just choked them on the upright an slid the bar through.

if you are having trouble getting them setup, maybe get a wide board such as a 2x10 or 2x12 and lay it over the top of your rack. be sure that it’s long enough so that it hangs of a good bit on both sides. the extra surface area maybe just what you need.

alright, i have the monster mini’s dont know if its because they stretch easier or because they are longer but when i just looped it through itself to choke it on my rack it did not work at all, im also pretty tall so that can be a factor too

You may have to wrap it around the rack more than once.

good idea, this makes it harder to keep the tension even on both sides but ill try it probably on saturday[/quote]

you are using minibands to do reverse band squats and bench? you need to get a pair of heavies or mediums for that. i would use mini’s for speed work but not set up reversed.

yeh monster mini’s but yeh, the way i have it for squat its minus about 135-150 at the bottom

anyways from last night:
reverse band squat 455x1 +50

Sumo Deadlift
445x1 (+10 lbs)

Front Squat
255x3 (+1 rep)

Strict Overhead Press

170 2x3 (PR +1 set)

Log C&P 230x2 PR+1 rep or +5lbs

Deadlift 430x5 PR+25lbs or +3 reps

here are a couple of baseline PR’s on my venture into band usage. hopefully the videos are helpful for setting up your bands. we had to experiment a bit to get a comfortable setup for the speed bench. but this setup worked really well.

reverse band bench press with strong bands
605x3x3-20lb PR from last week

speed bench with minibands-225x3x8

i’m sure you can stretch most bands far enough to get them to add plenty of resistance at the bottom but i would be afraid of them snapping under the weight. that’s why i suggested getting the heavier bands. they don’t need to stretch as far to get the tension you want out of them.

i do believe that elitefts is having a sale on them right now.

I’ve seen some pretty tall guys using minis and monster minis on reverse band work for squats and bench; you only have to double them over the top of the rack (assuming you have a 7 ft rack) to get the proper setup. Expect about 80-90 pound deload in the hole with minis and maybe 115-125 w/ monster minis (I’ve never tried them, so that’s a guess). Now back to PRs.

I’d appreciate some comments on depth and form in general. This is a 335lbs Squat for 2reps and a high 3rd. I was seeing stars coming out of the hole on the first, by the time I descended for rep number 3, it was a no go so I cut it high. My previous best was 150kgs (~330lbs) in late January in a competition.

DAMN! No replies today at all? Did I break the internet…again?

I was gonna let people with big squats comment, but I’ll bet if you widen you stance and turn your feet out a bit more you’re good for twenty pounds more.

HURRAY! They’ve fixed the internet!

Thanks skidmark. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying different stances, funny thing is everytime I go to get under the bar (other than light sets) I completely forget.

Same thing in competition…well 1 competition, other than the photo someone took that’s in my avatar I couldn’t tell you how wide I was.

I think I’ll write myself a note on my log so its a constant reminder.

like skidmark said, maybe take the stance out a bit. Also, as you are driving out of the hole you are letting your elbows drift back which puts the weight in front of you. you need to get the elbows under the bar more and actually force them forward as you drive out of the hole. overall, the form looks good though. as for depth, the first two were just about parallel. obviously the third wasn’t though. o

Last night I benched 315x8 raw, a 2 rep PR. My first time benching anything over 275 raw in over 2 months. Damn it hurt.

Thanks Meat. I never noticed the elbows before. I knew I was coming forward, but hadn’t noticed the elbows. I’ll focus on driving them forward.

And you think the 3rd one was high? 1" or 2"?

yeh i got a 7ft rack and im about 6’5 so they are actually like hanging at the top when im standing zero pull, so i dont think im stretching them to bad and ur estimate seems about right, it was absurd for benching so im changing that

Not really a PR since I’ve never tried before… but it’s the first time I’ve ever cleared the ground doing push ups!!

Next time, flap quicker and you’ll be ready to take flight and leave the nest.

(That was pretty cool, I’ll have to try it)

Very nice, but proper form requires that one exclaim “Hey” or “Ho” or some other single word with beginning with aitch at the top of the movement.

Especially for multiple reps.

Well, here is a personal best for me ever
I never repped 225lb
225 x 3 PR

<<<video won’t come in here, video in profile, if you want to watch >>>>
let me know what you guys think
just starting to get back and get motivated into lifting

more to come!

good squat man, 330lb!

Prepping for the Canadian Nationals @60kg:
260 squat on Wednesday
285 DL tonight, but I only have the squat video.
Pretty happy about both lifts. I also realized that I am walking the damn bar out 4 or 5 steps and I will work on fixing this.
