520 for 5: I got loose on the 4th rep and my partner had to give me a slight pull back to get me back in my groove and I came back and smoked the 5th one no assistance at all. This is a 25lbs PR from last week haha. Sorry if video is still upside down. It is being edited but takes 6 hours apparently to rotate 180 degrees.
Sorry for my side spotter being a little in the way…
300lbs for 2…previous PR was 303 at a meet in November.
Deadlifted 435x5 today. 10-pound PR onto my 5RM.
hey reed- what does your squat programming look like?
hit 550 for a dead 2 weeks ago. I’ve got a meet next week in IA, so we’ll see what happens there!
Hey Zen Taco,
I am taking almost all direction from Sam Byrd. My training obviously varies depending on how close my meet is out but n the off season its a very straight forward pretty basic linear progression style of training. Looks something along the lines of this.
Sunday- CAT Squats. We work up to 55-65% of our next meet goal and perform between 5-7 sets of 3-5 reps. Once I have hit 7 sets of 5 in under 10 mins with a specifiv weight ill add 5-10lbs and repeat. After this is Usually a heavy Box Pull from various height. Never going over our best comp single weight but will pull it for sets of 1-8reps just teaching our selves to feel that heavy ass weight and get used to it. Then 1-2 assistance usually GHR and some kind of Squat to finish off. Rep ranges vary but generaly between 8-20 depending on the movement.
Wednesday- Heavy Back or Front Squat following a simple 3x3, 3x5, or 3x8 with the last set being all out with good form set. Followed by stiff leg deadlifts and essentially the same as above.
As we get closer to a meet Sam feels it only takes 3-5 weeks tops to be completely peaked and ready to hit a new PR. usually go something like…
85% for 5
87% for 3-5
90% for 3
93% for 1-3
week before take opener for a ride and then rest 100% for a full week atleast. No training whats so ever. Foam Roll, Hot Tub, Strecth and get a deep tissue massage 3-4 days out of the meet.
awesome, thanks so much for the breakdown. Do you put in the bands for your cat training? or is it a single set or so on your heavy day just to get a feel for a heavier weight?
keep up the badass lifting!

Yeah bands and chains are not always added but when it is they are usually used on the top 2 sets of heavy days.
@ Reed, You are a machine viking hybrid!
315 for 8 on the squat for myself, good motivation from Reed keep it up!
Lol thanks Jlabs glad I can help you in any way.
300 for 3 sets of 2 Paused: Bench still sucks and is by far my biggest lagging movement but its coming up slowly now.
I switched to doing everything beltless since my weak core became a limiting factor. Feels absolutely amazing to feel stable squatting weights that you used to always belt up for.
Recent PRs
405x1 beltless squat (hybrid)
325x5 beltless olympic squat
Yesterday. 405 x 2 pause bench.

Deadlift 445x5.
Squats today, I hit 330lbs for 4 on my 5/3/1 week 1+ set, I probably could’ve hit 5, but pussied out, was still a rep record. Then proceeded and hit 365 lbs for a double, the 330 felt so good and I bitched out on a last rep I had to redeem myself. Heaviest double previous to this was 330lbs a few months back. Jizzed my pants a little when I completed the double, Huge progress and my squat is starting to get up there. then i bitched out again to do a 405 squat. 405 is all mental at this point I think, I will hit it within the next month.
heres the 330 lbs
