Training Partners?

How many of you guys train alone?? I don’t have a training partner and I’m not having any luck in getting one- none of my friends are interested in going to the gym, weightlifting or exercise, so I can’t persuade any of them to join.

As well as that, there aren’t really any younger people at my gym, and whenever there are, they already have training partners. It sucks when trying to lift heavy, as I don’t have anyone to spot me, so I’m worried of getting pinned beneath a weight, and pissed because there’s never anybody to help me with forced reps.

I’m trying to focus my training around free weights, but more often than not I have to resort to using machines as a result. Any of you fella’s train by yourself? And if you do, could you let me know how you overcame these problems?

i train alone 75% of the time. a power rack is your best friend.

Yup, all you need is a power rack. I train alone all the time and there’s very little you can’t do.

Don’t worry about the forced reps, consider the other forms of progression (see the recent article about Thibs words of wisdom)

  1. add weight
  2. add sets
  3. add reps
  4. training density - do the same in less time.

Train hard.

I had that problem too and trained alone for a long time. Im only 25 and started working out with a older guy who showed me my intensity was for shit…

Dont count out a partner because hes older, he can give you alot of advice and keep you motivated. Nothing makes me work harder when I want to quit and he points out hes fourty and just did that exercise with ease

Ditto. Try offering to spot some of the people you see often. Then, see if you can synchronize schedules on your heavy days. Also, see if your gym has a bulletin board and post a note.

This is great advice. I train alone now but the most intense partner ive ever had was 25 years my senior dont count them out for sure

Ask for a spot off someone. ive never been refused a spot. you might get to know someone too! and if no ones around or ur embarassed to ask, ask a member of staff.

I hate training alone. I do it a lot, but I never make as good gains as I do when I have a good partner.
