Training Legs

I had asked about high rep squats back in July and got some good feedback from waylander and debraD. I’ve been working it for a couple of months now and wanted share my last two squat days and ask where I should go from here? I train at home and only do squats for legs and also sprint twice a week. I have to say I’m loving the high rep squats. The first time I was able to complete a 20 rep set I thought I had accomplished something. Now I’m killing 225 X 20 like it’s nothing.

Wed - 9\15

1 - 135 x 10
2 - 185 x 10
3 - 225 x 20
4 - 225 x 20

6 - 225 x 20
7 - 225 x 20
8 - 275 x 10
9 - 275 x 8
10 - 275 x 9

Yah, you need to pick a weight you can only do 12 times or so without really stopping. The last 8 reps should be torture, do one set 20x275 or 315 next time

How many days recovery and what supplement aids do you give your legs?

I’ve just started the first cycle of 5/3/1 with days being Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri and main exercises being Military Press, Deadlift, Bench and Squat. There is a 3 day gap between the end of the Squat and Deadlift the following week. Does this sound like enough rest (I guess there’s not much choice when it comes to week’s schedule but I’m hoping I’ve missed something).

Supplement wise I’ve been taking BCAA (L-Leucine 500 mg/L-Isoleucine 125 mg/L-Valine 125 mg) and Beta-Alanine (6 x 400mg B-A and 350mg Creatine) - will this be enough? (half before and other half during the workout). Thanks.

I want to know how the fuck to get my left leg to catch up to my right!

I think I’m just going to stop doing unilateral work with both legs and just use it for my left.

Oh, and good thread![/quote]

I’ve got the same damn problem, I believe it was because in my four years of HS wrestling my lead leg was my right, in other words – the leg I was constantly shooting with.

You read the way to fix that?

Good article. Gave me the necessary push I needed to go do some squats after work! Squats (legs in general) have always been my least favorite exercise to do. Cheers

Those aren’t legs, those are tumors. Detail your leg training anywhere? For those of us who have normal cell growth in our appendages?

Looks great. You ever beat that 5x500 set?

Thanks guys, : ).

If you want to see my training, check out my log here:

Kakno, I haven’t hit that yet, but I also went on an 8 week cut and dropped down from around 230 to 208, and now am back up to 218, so I didn’t have a real opportunity to hit a PR. But I did hit 475 for a pretty strong 5 at about 210 BW, so I definitely have 500 x 5 + in the tank.

This thread is good inspiration, i’m not posting a leg pic until they’re 28’s though (they were 24 when i started lifting).

Squats twice a week will fix this problem lol.

Leg Pic

It is fairly old being from the middle of January 2011.

I just noticed my lack of definition in the left leg.
After looking again I noticed that this is from the camera angle.

Doesd anyone do ‘frog-stance’ leg work, whether it be with actual BB squats, hack squats, or leg press??? I know Gironda would recommend them, and so did Thibs for awhile…

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but didn’t you hit that on page 14 of your log? Good job on the cut BTW.
