Training Chest with Bad Shoulder

In the past, I have dislocated my left shoulder two times due to a seizure. I have done the rehab but moving any real weight causes severe pain in the shoulder. How can I train pecs without pain? Super slow reps (10 1 5 1 tempo)

What movements hurt? What range of motion?

Shoulder pain in low bar squats, severe, I do front squats. But benches hurt too

Have you tried moving your hands out and hold the collars lightly?

How about inclines, declines, and dips: all of which are good compound movements for pec activation.

How do things like flys/pecdec/cable work feel? Obviously being careful on how far back you go…I have had issues with my right shoulder a few times and I found that those lighter isolation exercises were useful to at least get a bit of something done. And in those situations pecdec was the best option for me personally

I saw somewhere of guys holding the plates. You lose tightness

Maybe you lose tightness. I will say it is much more relaxing on your elbows. How you tighten everything besides your arms is up to the individual. I will say it is illegal to hold the collars in most powerlifting federations (I believe).

Buffalo bar, Buffalo bar, buffalo bar! It sounds counterintuitive, but there’s a video by Chris Duffin out there explaining how this creates less shoulder stress. Sounds stupid but it works! I know first hand.

I’ve started experimenting with this the last couple weeks. I don’t totally have it down yet, because I feel like a wobbly mess, but you’re absolutely right that it’s less of a beating on the elbows.
