Barefoot Deadlifts
I used to but this one trainer at my gym started shit. So now i only do it for deadlifts.
I usually bench in nike frees and squat/pull in chucks.
I was going heavy in the squat and i forgot my chucks. I went up to about 600lbs with the frees on and almost lost it forward, scary as hell.
went barefoot and hit 755lbs a few sets later.
the frees are a little weird under heavy weights imo. chucks/barefoot is the way to go… but you cant compete barfoot so the decision is easy for me.
I train “barefoot.” That is, with the Vibram 5 Fingers.
I train in socks. Only reason I don’t train barefoot is because my feet get sweaty during squats and I start slipping.
I occasionally squat in bare feet and flip flops, just for a different feel.

What kind of socks do you have that don’t slip? Might depend on what surface you train on though, but like wood platform like myself I would slip.
I can’t believe how many people train barefoot!
I know one guy that trains in flip flops (and kicks them off when necessary). Everyone else, including myself, trains in Chucks.
I love being barefoot, but I dont think I’d feel as stable without the flat rubber soles.
I deadlift barefoot (or at least in socks)
I sometimes get yelled at my gym. They say “Well you could drop it on your foot”
What protection is a pair of Chuck Ts gonna give me over a sock!? If I drop 400 lbs on my toe, its gonna be crushed no matter what unless I’m wearin steel toes…dumb rule
From the “safety & it’s not worth the hassle from the idiot gym staff” perspective I stick to my Nike Frees & Vibram Five Fingers for squats & DLs. Just got the KSOs
In terms of hygiene most people I’ve seen at the gym are straight up walking contagion so if anything I’d want something between myself & the floor when I lift at the gym. Athlete’s foot? Never had it, knock on wood & don’t need it now.
I usually train in wrestling shoes with my superfeet orthotics inside them. For everything but squatting really.

I have a rubber mat underneath my rack, so it doesn’t really cause too much of a problem if you’re wearing socks. They’re just regular ol’ black dress socks, the kind I wear to work everyday.

Same. The rubber mats never get slippery for me.

Me too. Best non-shoes ever! I train in the KSO’s exclusively now, ditched the wrestling shoes for them, no comparison. Great traction and protects your feet from everyone else’s pathogens.
I need to get some of those rad black KSOs. I have the Sprints in the taupe color.

those look interesting, sucks I can’t fit in them and they don’t make bigger sizes.

Dropping 400 lbs on your feet while wearing steel noses is going to cut off a couple toes. I’ve seen it happen to construction workers.
I train in boxing shoes. Even though I haven’t been training all that long, they’re the best I’ve had so far.
Lift in Chucks, mostly. (Rec Center requires shoes.) Five Fingers look interesting… not sure how they’d be on my narrow feet.
For the last few months I’ve been doing my warmups (like before trail runs – lunges, drills, some sprints, etc.) outside on grass, and just trying to go barefoot more in general.
Feet feel better, healthier, stronger. Knees feel better. Arch (started out almost flat) has even become a little more visible.
That’s my experience, anyway.
I lift in Chuck Taylor’s all stars for squats and Deadlifts and regular jogging shoes for everything else have a pair of 200 dollar addidas Squat shoes in a box under my desk for almost a year just can’t stop wearing the Chucks.
Have a training partner who swears going bare foot will add 20 lbs to your squat, hahahahahah
Anyone flip tyres or push prowlers in them KSOs? Not enough traction?

I’ve had traction problems running sprints (well, my starts) in my KSO’s. Though I understand they’re not built for sprints…
They are a dream when it comes to lifting, especially squats and deads.
