I don’t usually post up these sort of Muscle Meet n Greet things, but an East Coast bodybuilding apparel company that pushes/supports natural bodybuilding (“All Natural Options”) is having a ‘Train with (Natural) Pros’ event this Saturday (April 9th) at Bob Bonham’s gym in East Rutherford, NJ. They’re going to have giveaways, contests, and I would imagine a bunch of their clothing line available (I’ve got a couple of the shirts, and for a relatively new/small operation, they’re pretty slick).

It’s scheduled from 12 - 5pm, and Bob’s letting anyone who shows up train for free, which is damn cool because if you’ve never gotten a chance to see this gym, it’s truly one of the last huge hardcore gyms still around.

Anyway, I figured if anyone from the area was going to be training anyway, it’d be damn cool to meet up and shoot the sh-t.

And Yes, I am one of the “Pros” -lol, so you guys can pick my brain all you want, please just let me get my own training session done and eat something first

greatta indeed,I wish not to be 10,000 miles far LOL[/quote]

Well worth the trip.

Ok, I don’t know what anyone else’s plans are, but my last show for this season is the end of June, so if people in the nearby vicinity wanna hit up a few gyms during the summer months, I’d definitely be game. Actually I was already talking to a few competitors at the gym last night about hitting Bev Francis’s place in July, then going straight to an all you can eat Sushi joint in Glen Cove (Long Island). I figure that could be one stop, We’ll hit Bonham’s Strong and Shapely in Jersey (need a good place to eat after),… any other suggestions guys?

If you’re going to Bev’s I’m in - I love that place and haven’t trained there in years - it was still a Golds last time I was there…lol…It’s only about half an hour from me - all you can eat sushi is a given. ; )

Been training at Strong and Shapely since my freshman year of high school, so its been about 10 years of training there now! best gym ever, if you live in the area you should definitely check out what your missing…

Stu, im not sure if you already answered this, but do you train there often, or not really??

If you want good food, take the 15-20 minute drive to the Portuguese section of Newark. Do the rodizio. All you can eat meat, freshly grilled and delivered to your table until you burst.

I like this one:

Fernandes 2 Steak House
158 Fleming Ave, Newark, NJ 07105

Forget the reviews complaining the waiters don’t speak English. They bring meat and you say “Yes” or “No”.

There’s a bunch of places like this but I always go to the one above. That section of Newark isn’t bad at all.

Now that’s a great idea.

I’ve been there a few times the last couple of years, really for various seminars and things of that sort. Of course now that I see that people would be into getting together and training/eating afterwards, I may just have to follow through on this little gym-tour-meet-up come July -lol

that would be awesome, PM if you are ever stopping by and looking for a training partner!

Okay, so let’s compile a “To Hit” list for the coming summer months.

So far we’ve got:
-Bev Francis’s Powerhouse in Syosett, NY (Long Island) and All you can eat Sushi (Minado in Carl Place)
-Strong n Shapely in East Rutherford, NJ and Fernanzes’ Steak House (Rodizio) [is that cool?]

There’s my crappy gym in Queens (Rego park) which is pretty close to choice of an Outback or a Cheeburger Cheeburger -lol

S

I don’t eat sushi, but I’m sure they would have teriyaki chicken or something. Never heard of Cheeburger, but I’m down for anything.

Lol - I was wondering if it was Minado you were talking about. Great place - lots of big pieces and rolls, plus a whole buffet of hot food as well - beef, chicken, fish - I’ve been there a few times. A perfect place for PWO nutrition!! : )

I’m down for Bev’s mostly, but I would take a trip to NJ - S&S sounds like a great gym. Though Bev’s is much more convenient for me - plus we might see some pros there…

Yeah, Minado’s is an awesome experience. I recall seeing Fakiri Mubarak (sp?!) there about 5 years ago. I was with a few of the ‘big’ guys from my gym at the time, and although Fakiri was mostly covered up, he was wearing shorts and his calves looked like watermellons! -lol. For anyone who’s not into the raw fish, they’ve got an entire hibatchi set up, as well as the usual hot-food fare you would expect in a Japanese restaurant. I THINK it runs about $25 or so (not counting drinks, tip etc), but if you come straight from the gym, you’ll get your money’s worth as you’re eat with a purpose!

Cheeburger-Cheeburger is the place I went to for my Birthday a couple of days after my very first contest. They have 20 oz burgers that you get to customize with toppings, sides etc (when you finish one, you get your photo on the wall), as well as about 100 different varieties of milk shakes and the usual onion rings, fries (cooked in peanut oil), etc taht you’d find at a good burger joint.

I’m hoping more people chime in with ideas here. I figure within the NY/Metro surrounding areas (NY, NJ, parts of PA or CT) we can hit a different place each weekend throughout the summer, maybe get Iron Dwarf (he lives in Jersey if I’m not mistaken) to sketch up T-Shirts (T-Nation East Coast 2011 Gym Tour? -lol)

I forgot about Minados. There’s also one in NJ about 10 minutes away from Strong and Shapely so that’s another NJ food option. I don’t eat fish but I still pile on the meat whenever I go there. It was about $30. The rodizios run about $30 to $35 too before tip.

Little Ferry?

I agree Minado is the shit, they have much more than sushi also if thats not your thing. I’ve destroyed pounds of crab legs there until they were shutting the lights off and putting the chairs up, hello super bloat.

Yup that’s the one. I go with my girlfriend and her family and they devour the crab legs too lol. Sometimes there is up to 30-45 minute wait if you go during dinner time. The wait at the rodizio is hit or miss. I’ve only gone there weekend afternoons.

Depending what everyone is in the mood for that day, we can hit either one. They’re both good options. But if you’ve never been to a rodizio before, you’ve got to try it.

I’m up for anything that is an “all-you can eat” format. Get 10-15 of us in there after a training session and we can shut the place down for good.

What about Steel Gym in the city? Also, I’ve always liked that look of Joe Defranco’s gym. Although, it may be for athletes and not bodybuilding, it seems like there’s some fun equipment there.

I’m not sure about DeFranco’s, but Steel Gym would definitely be a great spot to hit. Lotsa good eateries in Manhattan as well!
