Training Abs With Tabata Method

Hi all here is a Question. can you train Abs/core with Tabata method if so how? someone give me a clue

The Tabata method is meant to work (mostly) your whole body at once to help burn fat. I don’t think it would work with abs. But give it a try.

if you do, be sure to get it on tape for us so we can laugh our asses off. tabata “abs” would be about as productive as mowing the grass with hand-held clippers.

Sure, with Tabata Front Squats, or Tabata 1-arm swings, or Tabata Sledgehammer Strikes.

Other than that, it’d be tough. Tabatas won’t be most effective with small movements like crunches (even variations like leg raises or weighted crunches). Sure it could technically be done, but it’s not the most efficient method.

Keep Tabatas with the big, brief moves only. Mixing Tabatas with ab exercises is like doing a 1-rep max on push-ups. It could probably be done, but it just doesn’t make sense.

sorry i meant train the core…and that last post hit the nail on the head…not small ab movements…thats interesting…thanks any more movements?

kpd,

What said above have some points — Tabata is more for whole body compound exercises. If you use the protocol with single-joint and/or “small” exercises, you either get ineffective result or get local muscular failure before you finish the 4mins timed set.

If you do abs and Tabata together, I suggest first go multiple sets of heavy abs reps, then do your tabata.

e.g.1. 5x5 TGU then Tabata front squat

e.g.2. 3-4x12 weighted crunches then Tabata run

You may be surprised how hard it is.

Exercises: Minotaur has already suggested a few. I would add thruster to the list (some call it DB squat&press).

KB Swing, Clean, Snatch etc. would also be good exercises if KB is available to you.
