Is it just my imagination or has there been a notable upsurge in the amount of whiny posts over the last several months? This phenomenon seems to have taken on a life of its own, somewhat like a mob mentality.
Several years ago many people came to this website for its insightful articles and discussions. Authors said new things using out-of-the-box thinking that damn near everybody was grateful for because it was rarely, if ever, said anywhere else.
Now, many of these same people are doing nothing more than bitching when an author says something they don’t agree with, something that the author may not have said several years ago.
An author “changing his tune” after several more years of experience and additional data collection? God forbid that should ever happen. (Just look at the vitriol many posters write in response to CW’s “Sexy Female Training,” JF’s Death to the Conjugate Method, and CT’s The Truth About Bulking for examples.)
Many long-timers here seem to have gotten a sense of entitlement whereby every article better have the same consistent message the author has always been saying, reasoning follows the absolute best logic and most recent and varied scientific data as possible, and, most importantly, ALWAYS APPLIES DIRECTLY TO THE READER.
If any article “fails” in any way, then the author is a complete idiot never to be trusted again, with some readers actually writing that they now feel depressed.
Good God almighty, people. Some folks need to step back, take a deep breath, and think hard about how much time and effort they repeatedly spend thinking and responding to articles that don’t apply to them or they don’t entirely agree with.

Dont make blanket statements. You obviously have people in mind. Be a man and call them out rather than…whining…about it.
Some articles are more controversial than others and there is a difference between whining and voicing a reasoned opinion. Maybe it would be nice if if a few more poeple knew which was which?
Anyhow, I have to do it, which side of the coin does your own post fall on?
I don’t like this post, it’s really dumb. I mean, why don’t people just keep their comments to themselves. This doesn’t give me any encouragement or good advice. What’s too whiney? 3 sets? 4? How much rest should I take between whines to not be too whiney?

Yes, you’re right. Forgive me for not including specifics.
I won’t “call out” everyone, but some notable examples are Professor X’s seemingly condescending responses to so many of the skinny-newbie posts, and gojira’s anger and Jillybop’s comments about the inappropriateness to CW’s Sexy Female Training.
To be honest, I have the utmost respect for everyone I mentioned above, especially jillybop with her dramatic physique transformations. However, I am perturbed that these long-timers who have frequently and often written very well reasoned and clear posts have, in my opinion, lately become guilty of the same lack of clear, concise, constructive criticisms of which the authors/newbie-posters they say are guilty. This only serves to increase muddled thinking which often results in mudslinging.
I would hope that the quality of discussion at this site does not degrade to the level of negative political ads often seen in the US. My plea is that these long-timers, who have quite a lot of respect from damn near everyone, don’t let emotions get in the way of critical thinking.
And yes, it is ironic that I’m whining about whining.

This sounds like the Democrats and the Republicans. I dont know about the rest of you, but at no point in my life have I ever been so disappointed in the human race. I am sick and tired of seeing intelligent grown ups call each other names, and carry on without ever accomplishing anything. This website offers people different forums for which they can participate, or move on to a different topic, so in the end, if you dont like what`s being said, then just move on…

I agree… i dont care to get into a back and forth with anyone… so i’ll leave it alone… but i agree with your POV.

It sounds more like children arguing over who had the red crayon first (though what’s the difference, I suppose?).
As a 20 year old, my experience with “adults” is mainly focused around them being in positions of authority (eg, teachers, coaches, parents, etc.), so I find it…refreshing, I suppose, to see that even though a lot of them are twice as old as I am, they’re only half as intelligent.
I will agree, however, that sometimes a few of the people here need to realize that they can, in fact, “move on” WITHOUT getting the last word in an argument, especially when they run out of points to make. All it takes is a click.

I have to agree too. If these whiners don’t like an article, why can’t they just ignore it and move on to the next one? It would be nice if every single article here were written especially with me in mind, but I doubt that’ll happen.

I agree. And I refuse to spend my time arguing my opinion.
You may be right but I will admit, I sometimes find all the puerile drama entertaining. I’ve also developed the ability to skim right past the silly-assed posts and get to the good stuff so it doesn’t really bother me.
It’s an internet site, you just have to take it for what it is… or morphs into.

So, let me get this straight. You started a thread to whine about the whining that is going on? Makes sense to me![/quote]
If I may infer, he started the thread to draw atention to the whining and possibly initiate change.
Some of the insults I have seen are amusing and deserved, like the shoe thread, but sometimes it is just brutal attacks aimed at defacing and degrading and honestly hurts my eyes to see.

Please, by all means, infer away.
I know why he started the thread and I see both of your points. I am bored at work and was just being a smart ass.
