been lurking for about 8 years or so and this has me bothered enough to come in from out the cold…
5’7
180
32 years
male
i really only have a single goal: 1000 lb club (currently 235 bench, 265 squat, 275 dead for 1 rep maxes) but its important to me to have an aesthetically good body comp when i look in the mirror.
finished up the 3 month 5/3/1 challenge not too long ago, and am now 3 weeks into the below program using 5/3/1 principles for the initial heavy lifts.
i’m really only measuring protein in my diet and it’s as follows:
6:30 breakfast
4 eggs, 2 cups of milk, banana, 4 fish capsules 1 multi(total 40 g protein)
10:30 shake
2 scoops ON and water (50 g protein)
lunch
50 grams of chicken or fish and a ton of vege
5pm drive home
another shake 50g 2 scoops and water (i may opt out of this on off training days)
dinner
whatever the wife makes, approx 50 grams of protein (i keep chicken at the ready)
8pm workout w/ 2 scoops ON, 5 g creatine, 1 scoop of powered lemonade (around 30 g of carb, 50 protein)
1030 bed
2 cups of milk, 2 scoops of casiene, 4 fish oil (approx 42 grams protein)
in short, am i’m taking in too much around such a short period? is this not optimal? i’m trying to go 1.5 x body weight in protein to put on some good size for a cut phase in the spring.
would like to hear anyone elses thoughts, thanks in advance!
If you’ve been lurking for 8 years on a bodybuilding/general training forum, there’s probably very little new we can tell you about your diet that you haven’t already read.
Go to the gym and train. Eat a lot. Don’t spend too much time overanalyzing this, or you may end up posting at the decade mark with a similar question.

If your afraid to gain fat and only tracking protein there is a good chance you are under eating. Since your still striving for a 1000 pound total I would categorize you as a beginner so 1 month is more than enough time to gain both strength and muscle. Hence forth, if you do not make progress in any 1 month span of time start tracking your entire diet to see what mistakes are being made.
