Too Much Exercise?

I’m 6’0 , 206 pounds, BF% unknown at the moment. I’ve started lifting weights about two months back and trying to lose fat at the same time. Now I’ve read quite a lot of the articles on T-Nation and understand that bodybuilding and fat loss are two contradicting things so I’ve decided to start with fat loss for now.

My plan was to go for a jog for 45 minutes in the morning before breakfast and another 1 hour jog later in the day. I would do this about 5-7 times a week. Any help will be appreciated.

Good for you.

Do you have a question, or were you just letting us know?

Forgot to write the question at the end. I wanted to know if this would be too much or not and if anyone has an alternative if it is.

Any exercise is better than no exercise. Whatever you do, don’t lose sight of that fact.

Don’t give up the weights. Slow cardio is not the best way to lose fat. Look around this site and look for the hierarchy of fat loss article by Cosgrove. Use the search engine.

You can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. In a beginner it’s common. For someone who is near their target weight but want’s to lose a little fat and gain a little muscle, it’s recommended. For someone who wants to build a lot of muscle or wants to lose a lot of fat or both, you need to prioritize and focus on 1 at a time.

Nutrition is as important as training.

As to your question in the subject line, no, it’s not too much. If you asked if it’s the best use of your time, my answer would be no.

Look up HIIT. You can lose fat and gain muscle faster.

cardio makes you lose weight.
weightlifting makes you lose bf%+keep or add muscle.

its best if you go and do heavy weightlifting for an hour(not including warm ups/stretching), and then do some cardio whatever it is. preferably 30 or 60 sec runs and 30 or 60 sec walking. but even jogging will help you lose weight.

the only problem with doing jogging for a long time is that you need to get your post workout drink right after you are done with weightlifting , but if you add cardio thats not really the best idea. so either add a little cardio or no cardio, drink your postworkout drink, then if you want to do cardio go again during the evening (dont eat any carbs before this training, only before weightlifting) and go do jogging, HIIT(30 sec run 60 sec walks) or whatever. they all lose weight, but the best way is the HIIT, its just more tiring

Neither cardio or weightlifting make you lose weight. A caloric deficit makes you lose weight. That is your diet.

Your training and diet together (macronutrient timing etc.) will then determine if that weight lost is fat or muscle. You want to lose fat. So to paraphrase CT, get stronger. If you are getting stronger there is no way you will be losing muscle.

So, OP…What does your diet look like? Be specific. Post quantity, type of food, every extra nugget with a calorie in it, sauces, everything, and post it here.

What does your training look like? Specifically.
