In addition to my lifting, sprinting, BB complexes and jumping rope, I have been running a few miles 2-3 times a week for the past couple months. The longest distance I have ran at one time has been 3.25 miles. I have been running about 6-8 mile a week. For the past 2 weeks I have not felt in the mood for sex and have had trouble getting/keeping it up. In the past I have read stuff about too much aerobic exercise lowering test and HGH levels. I know that this isn’t a lot of running at all and I know that there are athletes and members of the military that run a lot more. Do you think my problem could be caused by the running? Anyone else have similar experiences?
How’s your sleep and hydration? Only time I had similar problems it was insomnia that did it. I started taking melatonin before bedtime, started getting 8 hrs at a time, and everything cleared up.

I drink water all day and get 8 hours of sleep almost every night.
how’s your diet, and stress? i found a while back when i was cutting, i really had to back off my training, or immediately suffer a plateau.
stress could easily be a cause of the issues with sex drive, though…
A similar thing happened to me right before I moved cross country away from home. Anything stressful going on right now? That can have a pretty profound effect on sex drive. You can also try process of elimination. Take a week or two cutting back on one aspect of your training…see what happens. Looks like you’re putting a lot of demand on your cardiovascular system throughout the week.

I really think that the long distance running has something to do with it. I can do all the weight lifting and anaerobic style conditioning and never have a problem.
I do a lot of conditioning because I’m prepping for a PT test.
Reduce your a caffeine intake or any stimulant
Eat zinc rich foods or supplement
Take some fish oil
Have some holy basil tea
Take some glutamine and betaine hydrocloride
Reduce your workout volume for a week.stretch more
Gauge your heart rate in the morning.(see if it lowers with reduced volume workout)

Good luck. Maybe nervous for the test? That might be part of it.

IMO your problem is caused by the running - added to the sprinting, BB complexes and jumping rope. That stuff is all similar and you’re doing a lot of it.

So I guess I should specialize and prioritize more…I have a problem of wanting to do everything.
Just add a deloading phase in your program.1-3 weeks
I had a similar effect a couple years back when I was on a diet. I am not sure if it’s running in particular that causes this, but maybe just overworking your body in general. Are you on a calorie restricted diet by any chance? Two things I would do immediately: (1) bring your calories up to a maintenance, maybe slightly higher, to repair metabolism in the case that you were dieting (2) I would honestly drop back to just weight training for a month or two.
That seemed to work for me. It could be that with all of your activity you are burning way more calories than you are eating, even if you think you are eating a lot. Further, you could just be overworking your body with all of the intense exercise.
What is your diet like, carb wise? I do not think it is the running. I used to run up to 50 miles a week, about 25 while still lifting heavy 3x a week and I never had a problem in regards to sex drive or sluggishness, unless I was undereating or not getting enough carbs.

Bowl of oatmeal in the morning, couple cups of brown rice during the day, fruits and vegetables and carbs at dinner is pretty random.
I try not to eat any processed foods, especially carbs(no bread, pasta etc.)
The sprinting has never given me a problem. I think the steady-state, multiple mile runs cause the problem.

Same here other than oats I only eat fruits and veggies. How many carbs(Grams) would you say you get daily? By my estimate the oats and rice is around 150 grams, carbs from veggies do not really count (mostly fiber). Looks like you might need more carbs. Depending on speed and your weight 3.25 miles can burn upwards of 500 calories.

It sounds like you are doing to much. I think you need to back off somewhere… its tough to “serve two masters”. Pretty much everyone is suggesting that you reduce the workload somewhat. Either you could focus on a single thing while doing maintainence on the other (i.e. focus on strength while doing at MOST 3 conditioning sessions a week or vice versa) or perhaps start having a deload week every 4 weeks or so and really deload.
Didn’t do any long runs this week only sprints and my drill sergeant is standing at attention again! haha back to normal.
