I’ll be 35 in Sept. so can I just join this forum a bit early ??
Well, I’m back on a diet, to lose about 25 pounds. My weight usually fluctuates about 30 pounds either way throughout the year. I know, I know, that ain’t healthy, but I’m into a bunch of different things in my life, and being at 12% all the time ain’t a goal, or an option.
Anyway… here’s my question: I keep seeing these colon cleansing, cleansing systems out there. Is this a good idea ? I’ve eaten so much bad shit over the past year, I wouldn’t be suprised if I got some rotten stuff left in me. So, do these systems work, or should i just up my fiber intake a lot. or will that even work ?? I’ve started back on the path of losing weight just this last sunday.
I’m 6’2", 245, LBM is probably around 195-ish. I’ve been lifting for 18 years. I know what it takes for me to lose weight. I like to see what I can add to the program.
Based on this very good interview by Chris Shugart, it definitely sounds like those colon cleansing products are a complete waste of time and likely do you more harm than good.
That’s an interesting article. Sounds like a little yogurt can’t hurt a person even. I would like to read more views on digestion from other professionals.
So you’ve eaten what you consider to be bad food in the past. Do you think it’s still in your system? No. It’s not. Your digestive system doesn’t store things. It poops them out.

I can understand that, and that does make the most sense it seems, but why do I still have somewhat of a bloated feeling for at least a few days ?

I wouldnt be suprised to if you have a milk alergy or some other alergy. they are quite common and can lead to that bloated feeling. Up the fiber intake, and stay away from anything that makes you feel bloated even if people say that it is healthy. (especially Milk, but there are others like nuts.)
I’ve done a liver cleanse via natural means. I didn’t have to buy any products, I didn’t have to eat yogert or anything like that. And for two days I felt the effects of it… I am not sure if it is a good thing for some people depending on how you clean yourself out, but personally for me I think it did a great job of clearing my system.

SG, I think a liver cleanse is a somewhat different kind of thing. I know Chad Waterbury (and I think a few other contributors) mention about taking supplements to assist with liver function. The original poster is thinking that some junk food he ate is staying in his system for days at a time.
What kind of product did you take for the liver cleanse? I really don’t know much about them. Did you have a noticeable improvement in energy levels?

Anyone who has ever prepped for a barium enema (I have) or colonoscopy can tell you that after 12 - 16 hours of clear liquids and a 10 oz. dose of magnesium citrate, all of the solid matter in your digestive system will be washed out, so colon cleansing by injection of water or whatever is totally unnecessary. A second 10 oz. dose 24 hours or so after the first (while still on clear liquids) is required, but I can tell you first hand that all you’re eliminating at this point the liquids that have absorbed by your digestive system with minimal suspended solids.
My point? Beyond the 48 - 50 hours of sacrifice required to not eat, it really doesn’t take much effort to “cleanse” properly for medical procedures, which demonstrates that the “build-up of a lifetime of poisons, etc…” that proponents of frequent ass-washings (that’s INNER ass - I hope you really do wash the external portion regularly!) talk about is total b.s.
That article with Shugs was NOT about “colon cleansing” it says nothing about it, it specifically was about “colonics” which are enemas.
Enemas are completely different than eating more yogurt and getting more fiber, which are 2 things that actually ARE “colon cleansing”
The other products, I have tried them and I noticed allergies and ashtma getting 100% better after using them. All those products do is things like kill yeast that may be living in your intestines, help get rid of any metals that are stored in fat cells, etc.
Like I said, it worked for me. Eat a lot of fiber too.
Oh yes, liver and colon cleanses are different. I did a liver/gallbladder cleanse because I had dormant gall stones. Since your liver produces bile, and gall stones are just hardened bile/cholesterol, I thought this would do me good. I have a great link to show you exactly how to do it, and even some pics on what you might see later.
I followed the instructions here to a “T” … and it certainly cleaned something out all right! The biggest thing I noticed was my stomach became flat. Now I didn’t have a gut or anything before, but I had a visible pudge. You know how women say “Oh look at my stomach, I’m bloated…” That is how mine looked all the time. I honestly thought prior to then that I just retained a lot of water at all times. This wasn’t something that was “in my mind” either because my boyfriend and my co-workers noticed it too.
As far as energy levels, I felt the same if I recall correctly. I know overall my mind felt better because I honestly thought I did something positive for my body after seeing what all came out that I had no idea was stored in me. I was super regular before then, so I thought I wouldn’t have much “stored materials” but I was wrong.
About a year ago I did the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet for 8 days. I was extremely skeptical, but my wife was doing it and asked if I would join her.
It was great! It basically consists of consuming nothing but lemonade for the duration of the diet. It is not normal lemonade though, it is the juice of fresh lemons mixed with grade B maple syrup and water. You also drink some senna leaf tea for the first few days as well as drink a quart of sea salt and water for the first 3 days.
The results are that everything is purged from your body. After the third day when the hunger pangs leave, you feel incredible. The downside is that weight training is basically useless as you are not injesting any protein. However, I lost 17 pounds, and kept 10 of those off after I started eating solid food again.
If you are thinking of doing a cleanse, do a Google search and look this one up, I highly suggest it.
