Those of you who have experience, what have been your results with either having a colonic done or using a Colonix type program?
Here’s the link to the Colonix program:
I’m thinking of doing one or the other, let’s hear your opinion.

Anyone ever had a colonic on here?
Or do I need to go to a website that sells hemp sandals for advice?
According to a gastrointestinal expert I asked about this in a recent (not published yet) interview:
“Thank God the colon knows what to do and rids itself of waste. This whole idea of colon cleansing isn’t necessary and can certainly be harmful when done on a regular basis. The process of digestion is 24 hours, but after this there’s no residual waste that needs to be flushed out!”
I’ll now await the hemp sandle wearing, vegan, granola crunching kettlebell swingers to disagree.
I’m not one to argue with an expert, but how does all the crap we eat nowadays figure into that statement? I’ve read some pretty interesting articles about this, particularily one in Maxim years ago, about these two guys who go on this retreat where all they do is fast and get ememas for two weeks. They weren’t eating anything, but tons of stuff kept coming out. What was that shit (literally)? Is it all a hoax? Either way, if that stuff is all crammed up in there, how can it be healthy?
The thing is Chris, the experts have said that chiropractic is BS, acupuncture is wacky, that you only need a few grams of protein a day, that squats are bad for you, etc.
I’m willing to give it a shot and if it “works”, great. If I feel better, digest better, etc then it will have been worth it.
You gotta read the testimonials on the site. There’s people excreting worms, among other things (!)
Whichever one I choose, I’ll let T-Nation know about it, for sure.
Well, I really don’t know about the idea of colon cleansing, beyond regular ingestion of fiber. The colon does a great job of taking care of itself, and in fact will kind of cleanse itself every once in a while.
Beyond that, I am looking into juice fasting. Apparently the reason that your friends kept finding shit is because (if what I have read is true) when a person fasts, the body begins to eliminate toxins, and “digest” the diseased and damaged cells, and eliminate them from the body.
A juice fast is actually 400 calories a day of freshly prepared fruit and vegetable juices, alkalizing vegetable broths, and herbal teas, plus vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. This supposedly provides a slower release of toxins.
You are also supposed to have colonics during this time because of all the toxins released, and you are supposed to dry brush the skin too because toxins are eliminated through the skin.
Now while I don’t know if any of this is true, I do know that it should be medically supervised, and if done, my opinion is to do it in conjunction with a colonoscopy. You are supposed to fast and have colonics during this time anyway, so why waste all that enjoyable colon cleansing, and kill 2 birds with one stone.
Here is an article on the subject.

How’s about a Harley riding, omnivore who happens to swing kettlebells and dare I say clubbells?
Actually not into colonics just taking issue with the kettlebell being lumped in with hippes.
Comrade Shugs, don’t make me notify the party!! hehe

Mostly kidding about the kettlebell thing, and remember I introduced most T-Nation readers to Clubbells through reviews and interviews with the inventor (re-inventor?) and I was the first to introduce Pavel to the bodybuilding audience too through interviews conducted around five years ago. Sadly, I also introduced Dr. “Chicken Little” Mercola to the BB audience.
But anyway, you gotta admit, many of the “alternative” fitness practices tend to attract an alternative type of trainer. The type of person that’s attracted to kettlebell-only training (or any other fringe type of fitness movement or fad) is the same type who’s into juice fasts or veganism or who’s really really into putting things in his butt for colon health.
Not always of course, but there’s a trend. And I own both Clubbells and kettlebells. Still, it’s fun poking the real Kool-Aide drinkers with a stick sometimes.
In fact, the colon can get impacted fecal matter stuck in it. Every hospital supply cart in America has Fleet Enemas on it or tap water enema buckets.
If your colon doesn’t empty completely after a regular bowel movement, that indicates a problem. How do you know if it is or not- Well, you could do an enema and see if anything solid and formed comes out(not just dirty water). A healthy empty colon should be able to take most of a half gallon of water, without feeling anything except the stretching feeling.
Oh, and Mage, the colon tries it’s best to take care of itself, but considering what Americans force it to deal with, it’s no surprise the colon cancer rate is so high.
Correct- It is not something you should rely on, but if you have a problem, it can speed the healing process a lot. And no it ain’t fun, but it works.
Not to hijack this thread or anuthing but all this talk about enemas brings back alot of bad juju from the time i had to get a colonoscopy.
To make a long story short the oral Fleet laxative they made me take the night before to clean me out didn’t do its job. So when i went into the hospital the next morning i had to tell them that the Fleet didn’t work. So the soluiton to that was to give me tap water enemas until i was cleaned out.
When it was all said and done it took a grand total of four enemas to clean my plumbing completely. I wouldn’t wish that suffering upon my worst enemy.
No highjack jakewnet, it’s exactly what we’re talking about. Sounds like you had some stuff up there that shouldn’t have been there. The gastrointesto expert that Shugs interviewed would probably say thats normal function for you. It will all come out eventually. They end up thinking this way because they see so many people in such bad shape.
The question to ask is- If it’s not coming out in a timely fashion, what are the negative results? What nasty new chemicals are being created? I don’t have the references handy, but some of them are carcinogenic.
Jakewnet, I hope your test showed you were clean. What you went thru was nothing compared to a resection, and then having a colostomy bag.

My colonoscopy showed that I have something called “mega-colon”. In short, that means that my colon is FUGGIN BIG and that when i do go to the bathroom i may not get it all out in one shot. My gastroenterologist(sp?) just told me to take a tblsp. of Milk of Magnesia twice a week and i would be fine. I have also had a barium GI. That sucked worse than the colonoscopy. i spent the rest of day after that shitting white liquid(insert gay joke here).
that is why adequate fiber ingestion is so important, as is having a healthy liver to cleans the toxins. laters pk
I did a flush the toxic program like that once. I think it was called isogenix, or something that sounds like that.
Lot’s of fruit juice concentrate for two days. I was very hungry. I passed a lot of stuff out thru the old colon.
The juice was very high in fiber.
Honestly I felt better. Don’t know if it was toxins or not but I felt better afterwards. Difficult to measure why.
Factoid: 50% of human feces by weight consists of bacteria. Gut flora is beneficial to digestion, breakdown of of potential poisions, and fighting off diseases.
Since half of what comes out is dead bacteria the body is shedding that explains some of the phenomena surrounding this colon cleansing crap (pun intended).
If you don’t take in any food you still have a huge population of gut flora and it continues to slough off dead bacteria. That’s why you continue to eliminate even after you stop eating.
All that gunk that comes out when you do the “cleansing” is just the live and beneficial population of gut flora in your body, which can be as much as 5-8 pounds of matter. Once you kill off the population you then have to get a starter population going again, that’s why they always come with a probiotic followup.
I’m no shite scientist or intestinal engineer but a lot of this looks like smoke and mirrors. They point to a perfectly normal and beneficial part of the human digestive process and then attribute a bunch of crap to it that most likely isn’t true. That way they can sell you on something that may not be harmful but also has dubious benefits beyond making them some cash.
Eat enough fiber and you’re good to go…literally.
