Thanks Shane. My wife is doing a lot better. Somehow, I have dodged it (at least for now). Took a test this morning and it was negative, although I have had waves of feeling like crap for the last 24 hours. Hoping to fight it off. Skipped the workout today to get some rest.
Highly recommend the rest component. Come back when the body is ready! I’ve done very little over the past week during 'rona recovery.
Definitely. I’ve been sleeping probably 10 hours per night for the last few nights. Have a sore throat right now and feel as though I may be in the throws of it by tonight but at least I’ll be well rested and can hopefully beat it sooner. Hope you have a quick recovery my friend!
Unfortunately, they say the new strand of Covid, the biggest telltale sign is a sore throat. Good luck man. Hate that for you guys. Covid seems to be the new flu/cold. ![]()
Rest up.
Ha ha, no worries buddy. It was pretty obvious in that all of my family preceded me in this. Doubt I came down with a cold after being locked in the house with a bunch of people with covid for the last five days.
Yeah, it does suck to have to deal with this somewhat normally. For years I might only have something like this once per year. Usually in January or February (when no one wants to be outside anyway…) Hate to miss the better part of two weeks in the middle of the summer. Plus I only have 1 sick day left after Omicron so will be burning PTO after that’s gone.
I haven’t slept this much since being a teenager I reckon!
When the body says rest, I say take it!
It finally hit me last night in the middle of the night. Cough, fever, etc. Slept pretty poorly but, honestly, this is still easier than Omicron. I could barely get out of bed for a day and a half with it. I’m sitting here working from home today. Hope you are resting and healing up my friend. ![]()
Rest up. Good to hear you think this one seems to be a little easier.
Thanks Shane. Yep, hope it stays on the milder side.

Comments:
Covid Update: The last week and a half sucked at our house. Everyone of us had Covid for the second time in six months. Me being the last. Overall, we barely left the house for about 8 days and the cabin fever was really bad, especially for my wife. My fever lasted about 24 hours. This BA5 variant was a little milder than Omicron. I was able to work at least 5-6 hours per day every day last week. By Saturday, after 5 days, my energy had returned to probably 80% and only had some remaining chest congestion and slight sinus congestion. Those two symptoms still remain, actually (today is Monday). I first had symptoms last Monday, so 8 days ago.
Next Cycle: I decided to just go ahead and end the last cycle and start a new one. This week will be a ramp-up week while I continue to heal from Covid. For this cycle, I am going to try something different. Each week, for 4 weeks, I am going to do different variations and rep ranges of the main lifts. On week 4, I will finish with some heavy-ish sets of the main lifts. All training maxes are made up for that day. There are no prescribed weights. I just wanted to try something different after doing 5-3-1 for a couple of years. Go ahead and mark my words, though, doing something different usually ends in injury at this point so don’t be surprised if that’s what happens.
Session: I have lowered the treadmill from 15% to 10% after reading that uphill walking is bad for sesamoiditis (my foot problem). Heartrate only got up to 107 during that 0.5 mile so that isn’t going to work. I have knocked about 20% of the calories off too. Strength went well. Nothing crazy. Haven’t done Landmine anything in a while so that was nice. Conditioning was easy by design.
Have a good day!
Nice ramp up session Trent. Sorry to hear about your household having to go through that again. Unfortunately, I am sure we all are going to be doing this more often.
New training sounds interesting. Good luck with it.
A rower is another option that might be foot friendly.
Thanks Shane. Yep, that is the new reality I guess. It was funny. When we went to church yesterday morning, everyone was like, “Oh I’m sorry you guys got sick! Glad you’re feeling better!” Then almost all of them coughed.
Not one person actually referred to “the sickness” as Covid. And at this point, I have to agree with them. It is not serious enough to be isolating from society. It should be treated like every other illness. If you have a fever or feel really bad, stay home. If not, continue on as normal.
I like rowing here and there but usually when I’m on one I’m thinking, “Glad I don’t do this very often… I hate this %#(% thing…”
Nah, it isn’t that bad. Just not sure if I want a rower becoming my primary source of cardio.
The idea with the new training is finding a way to still force my muscles to adapt to new stimulus while mostly keeping the weights light and the reps manageable. I have made up one cycle’s worth of lifting so we’ll see what happens…

Comments: I’d like to try to split up my two weightlifting days. It seems like almost anyone in that arena recommends not training the same muscle groups on back-to-back days. I did tomorrow’s Accessory circuit to make tomorrow more manageable. Then did 20 minutes of stretching and mobility, then 10 minutes of LISS with the vest on. The LISS was at 10% incline, which yesterday didn’t seem to give me enough of a challenge. Unfortunately, the added weight of the weight vest made my foot hurt so that probably won’t be an option either…
@TM79 glad you are feeling better.
Thank you my friend. Hope you are feeling better as well!

Comments: Sauna session incoming… Pretty tired from a very long day yesterday. I was working hard as shit in an attic space in 95 degree weather. Got back in the car completely drenched in sweat and drove home for 1.5 hours. Was still drenched when I got home…
Session: Strength was good. I’ve been having a lot of pain and stiffness in my middle finger. Hopefully not the beginning of arthritis. It seemed to warmup after the first set and felt a little better. The metcon was quick and easy.
Good job Trent.
I like doing an upper, legs, upper day with a leg focused cardio days in between to make up for another leg day.
I do a main lift 531 style on upper sessions bench on one and SOHP on the other. I drop in light deads when I am feeling good, usually every other week, just so they stay in rotation.
Verdicts out how well it works but I seem to be recovering ok so far.
I’ll be interested to see how you set your days and training up.
Thanks Shane. Good strategy on the daily lineup. Honestly, at this point, I think that if you are blessed with great genes and can train at a high level at anything, you are doing well. For the rest of us (me), all I can hope for is to stay in good shape strength and conditioning wise. I am fighting my own body at this point. My motivation and will power has been proven time and time again. That’s not the issue. I just have to work around injuries that keep piling up.
Recurring injuries can indicate that there is either too much work, not enough recovery, lack of movement variation or a combination of these things.
Great points. My main injury is that fractured bone in my foot that is getting increasingly irritable. It seems all they can really do is take it out, which will screw up my big toe and lead to a host of other injuries (bunions, etc.). So I pretty much just have to deal with it… Other than that, I have had some hip, knee and lower back issues that I have successfully eliminated by changing up my training, avoiding certain exercises and limiting weight. The foot is the killer though…
